How many of you learned to fly from relatives? by lardsoup
Go for it! I've had a few different instructors, but the two best ones were both taught to fly by their Dads. So there must be some special about it. "Sam" wrote in message ... Just wondering what your experience was like...

Sporty's Catalog by Jeremy Lew
I don't think they've ever sold Lightspeeds. I saw one catalog (I think AvShop) recently which had the entire line of Lightspeeds with the exception of the QFR Cross Country (low-priced ANR). Interestingly, they featured a "house brand" headset which looked very much like a rebranded version...

Surecheck TrafficScope Pirep? by Marco Leon
I cancelled my previous order for their TPAS 100 after I heard the terrible reviews from the newsgroups and some aviation publications. Through a Google search I was only able to find one guy's review which was positive. Anyone care to share what they heard or experienced with the...

Looking for an old Cessna 172 - call sign: C-GUZE by Grant Gilron
Hi, Does anyone out there fly and/or own an old Cessna 172, call sign: C-GUZE, colour: white with blue stripes? It was owned and flown by my Father and was based at the Ottawa Flying Club in Ontario, Canada during the 1980's. I believe it was sold to someone in Quebec in 1986. I am interested if...

Great circle formulae, True cource and actual heading by Sims
Hi, I am trying to write a formula to compute flight headings. If i use 2 lat/lon i can get a "true course" but due to magnetic variations the true course is not really all that useful, (knowing that my true course is 118deg will not tell me that i should fly 93 deg). What i mean is if i go from...

Great circle formulae, True course and actual heading by Ed Williams
I am just surprised that they vary so much depending what model is been used. Really? Mostly, I think they are within a degree. What model is the best? And also it seems that by the poles the calculation are somewhat wrong, is it just my imagination?

DC-3 wings and fuselage twisted in a storm but landed safely. by Ron
The following story is from: http://www.dc3history.org/chapters/chapter_10.htm Fred Davies, a navigator on a Dakota, reported, "'Darkey,' a fellow Welshman, was a good pilot and an old friend. One day he walked into the OPS tent with his crew. I shall never forget his face. It was ashen, and when...

One more question regarding great circle and two intersecting course. by Sims
Hi, Thanks to all the replies to my earlier post i managed to approximate a solution to my problem. But it also raised another question. If i have 2 'line' given by lat/lon, something like A(lat1, lon1, lat2, lon2) and B(lat1, lon1, lat2, lon2) how can i calculate the (lat, lon) where both lines...

Lightspeed does it again by Duane MacInnis
I followed the posts about Lightspeed selling pretty good equipment, and most importantly, standing behind their products when they have problems. I was particularly impressed with Jay Honeck's reports (hi Jay) about his Oshkosh experience. So, as a treat to myself I recently bought a 30/3G...

GPS Altitude with WAAS by Phil Verghese
I posted earlier about seeing differences of up to 500' between the altitude shown on my Garmin GPS 196 (even while receiving WAAS) and my altimeter. The GPS would consistently indicate higher than the altimeter. Dan Luke suggested the cause might be non-standard temperatures. After some more...
