St. Vith under fire by
ArtKramr
On this day in 1944 German units had St. Vith under fire. They were delayed
until the 21st. thereby slowing their advance and contributing to their defeat.
American losses were heavy. Lest we forget.

MSNBC Airplane Hall of Fame by
Timm
MSNBC ran an interesting article. I'd like to hear your feedback.
http://www.msnbc.com/news/990865.asp?cp1=1
I think it's a pretty good list, but I'm not sure I'd include the B314.
Anyway, what does everyone here think?

Low Cost Motion Simulators For PC Games!!!! by
Mark Barry
Hello,
We recently started manufacturing low-cost hi-fidelity 3 DOF motion
platforms that are compatible with many PC flight simulators. We are
able to extract the telemetry data (pitch, roll, heave, g-forces, etc)
from the games to program our motion simulators. That means our
customers do not...

Why the Czech gov selected Gripen fighters over F-16. [Official statement] by
Karl
PRAGUE, Dec 18 (Reuters) - The Czech Republic chose a Swedish offer of
Gripen combat jets over U.S.-made fighters mainly on technical merits,
senior defense ministry officials said on Thursday.

What does this entry on a pilot's record mean, circa 1970?:
"crew member on flight service"
Does that mean he's current as a pilot, or something else entirely?
Thanks!

Chinese trainer first flight? by
Gernot Hassenpflug
I saw an article in the local Chinese paper last night, but didn't
have the time to decipher it. Picture showes a tandem jet in flight,
and the caption said something about a two-seater, the first
home-grown trainer of the Chinese Air Force. Did anyone else notice
this news, or is it old hat?

Water Cooled Jet Engines: a possibility then and now?
This post examines German water cooled gas turbine work in the period
1930-1945 and also looks at modern 'steam cooling' of gas turbine
blades.
I speculate as to the possibility of water cooled jet fighters with
radiators or evaporative steam...

Anti-Ice on Combat Aircraft by
Charles Talleyrand
We have an A-4 and a B-52 on the airport here. Neither seems to have
an anti-ice system as far as I can see (of course the B-52's wing is rather
above my head, and currently covered in snow).
Do Air Force/Navy planes have de-ice equipment? What happens
when the radar dome gets coated in ice...

Saddam Capture - End to resistance? by
Tuollaf43
The capture of Saddam Hussein (assuming that he is saddam and not a
double or a plant) is a great morale boost for the US and assorted
allies in Iraq. Wonder what effect, if any, it will have on continued
resistance in Iraq.
