New OAT for old Arrow by Frode Berg
Hi! Anyone have any experience in changing OAT gauge an old Cherokees? Ours has the old probe sticking out the tope of the windshield, but after replacing it twice with new units, it still doesn't work..... We would love to get a newer more reliable digital OAT readout. Anyone got any ideas of a...

Would like to talk with an insurance underwriter..... by [email protected]
Are there any aviation insurance underwriters on the group? I'd like to understand better the factors that go into insuring a customer. For example, I put in a claim for damages which occured during training, when I was not the PIC. I'd like to understand if the insurance underwriter is looking...

OSH North 40 party by Jim Burns
Over 50 people dropped by Jay and Mary's campsite in the North 40 at OSH for the annual rec.aviation party Wednesday evening. I'll leave the full report & pictures for Jay to make upon his return, but I just wanted to say the turn out was great. The party started early with a few people dropping...

Scientific Data on Engine Operations by O. Sami Saydjari
This is actually a split off from the "Rotating Injectors Among Cylinders" thread. I prefer not to distract that thread any. I must say that I find the evidence presented in support on LOP to be uncompelling. Although it is certainly appealing at the gut level, it is a far cry from scientific...

$4.04 per gallon at Hilton Head by Guy Byars
Just tanked up at Hilton Head SC. They charged me $3.85 per gallon of 100LL, and then added on a 5% "fuel tax". Works out to $4.04 per gallon. Ouch, a new high. Now that I am back home, I am going to top off with mogas... $2.10 seems cheap now.

Lycoming O-540, "normal" CHT/EGT??? by USA
Hello everyone, I finally installed an EDM700 on my '68 235C. What a big change in the way I operate now. Can I get some feedback from you O-540 drivers on what you have seen as "normal" in EGT & CHT? I am specifically interested in knowing about those at your run-up, on climb out, at cruise, and...

Mooney Low Voltage by [email protected]
Can anybody help me diagnose this problem? Just bought my new (to me) 1978 Mooney 201, flew it back from Kansas City to Atlanta, no problem. Flew to Richmond, VA - again no problem. Leaving RIC for Atlanta, the low voltage light started flashing. Didn't want to carry on IFR so stopped into...

Question
Helio Courier vs Something Else by Fisherman
Howdy! I think the Helio Courier is just about the best back country airplane I've ever heard of but there are so few of them and the company seems to be taking it's sweet time getting them back into production. Is there anything out there that even compares to the Courier's specs and...

Radial GA tires by [email protected]
Is there anyone out there who is running on or has tried radial GA tires? My question is in regard to rolling friction compared to conventional ply. Notice any difference in take off roll, particularly on rough fields? How about ground handling on landings? Jim

Leaning using EGT - Lycoming O-540 (Aztec) by Dean
On my first flight in the Aztec with a fellow pilot who was doing the flying, he stated to lean using the EGT (a recently installed Electronics International digital single probe device)to circa 1300 and no higher than 1350. The aircraft does not have a CHT. I am totally new to operating larger...
