VOR and reverse sensing by
Koopas Ly
Hi all,
What is meant by reverse sensing?
Say I am southeast of the VOR station, and want to head straight to
that station in a northwest direction, at a heading of 300. I tune
and identify, and currently track the 300 radial (300 on the OBS),
with a "TO" indication, and the needle centered. If...

Standard rate turn in Boeing 757? by
Garyurbach
Can anybody here tall me what the standard rate of turn is in a 757? Is it the
same as small palnes, i.ei, is it universal at 360 degrees in 2 minutes?
I've got someone telling me the Boeing 757 that hit the Pentagon did some
impossible turn before flying into the building, and it sounds like a...

Approaching Deep Stall by
Fred the Red Shirt
For a while I have been wondering why there seem to be no
airplanes with a low wing and a high tail. Say for instance
with a fuselage and epenage like the Zodiac 701, but with
a low wing instead of the high wing. Then I read about deep
stall, as illustrated...

Spin Training by
Captain Wubba
Hello. I'm finishing up my CFI training. My CFI and I went up in a 172
(certified for spins) and tried to get the plane to spin for my spin
training. The airplane was loaded properly in the utility category. We
could not get the airplane to enter a fully developed spin. It would
enter the incipient...

Future in Aviation for my Son? by
Jay Honeck
As many of you know, my son is taking flight lessons. He's past solo,
and into his cross-country flights.
He's a senior in high school, and is wondering what to do with the
rest of his life. His initial aim has been going into engineering,
but has decided that math is not something he truly...

Single-engine plane with the best range? by
Bob
Hello,
I've been reading news on flying for quite a while and these seems to
be the most well-informed groups (the googles)on the net. I would
therefore like to have your personnal opinion on a question. I live
in Northern Quebec (Yes, I'm french speaking so forgive the spelling
mistakes) and...

Are we crazy, or just stupid? by
Jay Honeck
I just returned from one of the hardest evenings of my life. Mary, my
kids, and I just attended the visitation for Blane Anderson, our
friend and fellow pilot who lost his life in the crash of a Spencer
Air Car (and amphibious homebuilt craft) last Friday, just west of
Iowa City. He was less than...

negative dihedral by
Tina
I understand how positive dihedral helps dynamic stability in
airplanes, but some big ones, like the Russian An 124 Condor, has a
pronounced negative dihedral -- the wings have a noticeable downward
slope.
Q1: Do those airplanes need active fly by wire controls to maintain
stability, or is...

Engine problem - Seneca II by
BDS
We've been having a problem with the engines on our Seneca II for awhile now
and I wonder if anyone else has any experience with it. The engines are
TSIO-360s and if we lean at cruise with about 75% power (typically around
32-in MP) or less to anything over about 1400 EGT (which is still ROP),...

How high can I get? by
Mark
Ok, it's the year 2025. If man is still alive.
You are in a little Cessna 150.
You're plane isn't pressurized because it will implode,
so you're wearing a pressurized body suit. You have
an oxygen mask. You plane is powered by a very
powerful hydrogen atom splitting energy source.

Hot shot pilots are scum! by

If I ever meet a hotshot pilot in real life they would not walk away from
the experience. I keep a bayonnet around for idiots like that who bomb
innocent people for their own egos.
Except for the lower halfs of the hot black ones.

Ground control vs. clearance delivery for VFR by
B A R R Y
My local Delta base (HFD) will contact nearby BDL TRACON and obtain a
squawk code for VFR flight following or traffic advisories. This
service is "advertised" on the ATIS and is requested from ground
control on initial call up by departures. Ground calls you back with
a code and the proper...

"position & hold" going away by
Paul kgyy
I saw an announcement on Aeronews this morning that the FAA is
proposing that the "taxi into position and hold" process used at
virtually all towered airports be discontinued.
This is really gonna work great at places like Newark, LaGuardia, and
OHare.

I want to buy a plane by year-end but they're not making it easy. by
T.Roger
I don't have my ticket yet -- and I'm really committed because I want to buy
my own plane to train and fly -- and I want to take advantage of the tax
write-off about to expire at year end.
I've been at this since August.
But, hell, they're not making it easy.
All I've asked of Cirrus, Piper and...
