Hi everyone, We have a vacation planned in September to Ocracoke Island. We'll be departing from Spartanburg, SC (SPA). I have flown to Ocracoke once before but that was VFR from the north. Any idea what routing to expect when IFR from the west? Richard

MOCA and STAR by Larry R[_2_]
Ok, I am trying to brush off some of the rust and getting some recurrent training. The task was to plan a flight, KLOU-KLEX-KJVY. (Louisville,KY). So, I looked up the STAR Clegg2 ( http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0702/00697CLEGG.PDF), and the charts. Clegg2 *seems* to make the KLOU-KLEX simple- just...

12 horsepower per hour per gallon, equates to percent power by Doug
Rule of thumb. So if you are burning 10 gallons an hour in a 180 hp engine, you are developing (10x12) = 120 hp. 120/180 = .67, so that is 67% power. It's not exact but gets you close.

Logbook Question From An Outsider by Jim
Greetings, Would somebody be kind enough to answer a question from this first-time poster? Over the years, I've accumulated several dozen hours in Frasca and AST 300 simulators...of course, legally classified as ground trainers. I have been under the impression that time in these ground trainers...

Strategy for icing due to freezing rain by Bob Gardner
Are you familiar with Skew-T diagrams? They show a continual track of temperature and dewpoint versus altitude as reflected by the RAOB balloon. Might be better than depending on rules of thumb. Just Google Skew-T and you will get plenty of links. Bob Gardner "Peter" wrote...

FAA to enforce aircraft registration regulations by Paul kgyy
This has been on the news lately, but I've been wondering why, since the FAA has been crying about budget constraints. But it just occurred to me that the real reason they want the address file correct is to collect user charges.

Avmap 4 GPS - anyone knows anything about it??? by Jay Honeck
I've finally located the manuals at http://www.pilotmall.com/page/1/PROD/26/17390 Mary and I own (and LOVE) the AvMap EKP-IIIC, the predecessor to the EKP-IV. We played with the IV extensively at OSH this year, and I fell in love with it. It's smaller, thinner -- yet still has a BIGGER,...

Hello community, after downloading several *.pdf's from the Chelton side (being inspired by AOPA's Commander ;-) and browsing thru them, it seems that there are some features in this box that set it apart from the competition, e.g. terrain display, "higway-in-the-sky" pointers, etc. Are there any...
