When Good Cylinders Go Bad (Pic Posted to alt.binaries.pictures.aviation) by El Roto
Go on over to see a cylinder head and piston off of a P&W 1830 after the exhaust valve broke off part way up the valve stem (that's what made the big hole through the piston). The a/c landed safely and no one was hurt - I can't say more than that per the request of the a/c owner. The exhaust...

Painting Your Restored Aircraft by jls
You have to take the wings off, don't you? Anybody shoot an aircraft with paint from under the wings or under the belly? Just wondering out loud here.

Poly Dope Question by Michael
Wanting to spray two fabric covered wings. The fabric is very good still. Silver dope all over from little repairs. Rebuilt airplane - one wing Stitts, one Ceconite. To the question: Is there indeed a plyurathane (or some other) dope that can be sprayed and adhere to both types of wing covering,...

Fabric covering processes by Jerry Guy
I'm working on a fabric repair on a Pitts, but I'm unsure as to which process was used. I'm familiar with dope processes. This material appears to have no base tint to the fabric (green nitrate/red polyfiber). There is no silver UV coating. There is a white/light grey base coat and a very glossy...

Shakedown: Friction Lock for Old 172 Mixture Control: $60 by jls
Yeah, and it's just a little U-Shaped piece of steel plate about .020 thick and hardly bigger than a dime. Tres incroyable. Well, maybe I couldn't make it for that, and besides, it's got to be an official Cessna part, or pma'd. The other one broke, and when I told the owner/a&p it had to be...

Need suggestions for clean butt splice for electrical wires. by Bart D. Hull
I'm working on the firewall forward for my homebuilt. I need to extend various wires to make it to their respective destinations. (14 to 26 gauge wires.) Any way to have a nice clean butt joint? I don't like the crimp butt joints or twisting the wires together with the accompanying monster...

Question for Squirrel the Lurker by jls
Your post on alodine and using boxes to dip wing skins brings up another question. First, here's a quote from your most excellent post: I dip all that I can (1 gallon will allow me to dip wing skins). I use shallow cardboard boxes (Van's boxes from the tail kit is just great), and line them with...

Alodyne results by Ed Wischmeyer
To alodyne the two rudder skins and the vertical fin skin on the RV-10, I used the bottom part of the tail kit shipping box as a "swimming pool," lined with 4 mil plastic. The sheet I bought was 25' x 10', so there was enough to line the box twice, fortuitously. I had on hand one gallon each etch...

For Sale: Propellor Governor Drive Adapter with Driven Gear by John Ammeter
As the title says, I've got an governor adapter for sale. I bought it for use with my Lycoming E2A engine but later found that the A&P that did the last overhaul on it had replaced the crankshaft with the wrong one for the E2A. So, my loss is your gain. I paid $150 for it about 12 years ago...

tailwheel steering by Marvin Barnard
I have trouble steering my homebuilt, which is simular of PA-20 and suspect the steering springs are weak. Of coarse excessive tension would be too much stress on the rudder steering yoke. Does anyone know the correct spring rate for the steering springs on a PA-20?
