What to ask when looking for a plane... by
Dico
Hello,
As some of you may have concluded with my other posts, we're looking at
a getting into a Twin Comanche and I'm curious about what questions to
ask after seeing a listing online and prior to getting to the "pre-buy"
inspection stage.
Currently i'm asking:
1. if all ADs/SBs are complied...

What thickness for new side windows? by
Ben Jackson
What are the pros/cons of thicker replacement side windows? Does the
thickness of the sides affect noise much? Is the 1/4" replacement stuff
significantly heavier?

What sort of plane do I want? by
Paul Tomblin
Ok, when I'm dreaming, I want a deHavilland Beaver on amphib floats
with all the Kenmore mods. But lets be practical here, I haven't won the
lottery.
Is there a plane out there that:
- is on floats (preferably amphibs, but I know they add a lot to the cost)
- can carry two people plus camping...

What size fuse for Cessna Clock? by
Mark Martindale
Does anyone know what size fuse is used in the clock circuit in a 172H.
This fuse is located in a holder by the battery box. POH only shows fuse
and no ampere rating. I would guess 1 or 2 amp??
Thanks,
Mark

What Radio Should I Pick???? by
Charles Talleyrand
I have a KX-170 that's *sometimes* just not working right in my VFR
Cessna 150.
For the same price (about $1,300) I could get either
A McCoy MAC-1700 as a slide in replacement for the 170b
-or-
An Icom 200 as an additional radio (with the flaky KX170b as backup).
Any recommendations?

what placards are required? by
Dave Butler
There is a list of placards in the POH (Mooney M20J) and the wording there makes
me think they are all required. Some examples from memory a "DO NOT PUSH",
"NO STEP", "TIRE PRESSURE xx POUNDS". Sorry, I don't have the POH in front of
me at the moment.
The Type Certificate Data Sheet at the...

What is this instrument? by
Nathan Young
Looking through ads on aso.com, I ran into this picture.
http://www.aso.com/aircraft/77810/panel-1.jpg
What is the instrument in the lower left of the panel underneath the
clock?
It looks a bit like a VSI, but the 0 point is at 12 o'clock instead of
9 o'clock, and it appears to have 3 indicator...

What is the status on cheaper aircraft for the Sports pilot? by
N9NWO
A lot of us can not afford the $100K+ aircraft. Even Taylor is a bit too
expensive at $54K. When can we expect to see something in the $15 to 25K
range?
I will note that I am seeing a lot of used aircraft in that range. I gather
that the market is a bit depressed still.

be the most well-informed groups (the googles)writer on the net. I
would therefore like to have your personnal opinion on a question. I
live in Northern Quebec (Yes, I'm french speaking so forgive the
spelling mistakes)...

What is a Doyne Apache? by
JAX
I've seen some Apaches listed that are 'Doyne conversions' but I can't
find what the conversion involved, except maybe 180hp engines. I know
about Geronimos, but what exactly makes up a Doyne conversion Apache?

What is a "short field" for a PA28-181 by
Roy Page
I have been trying to determine the length of a runway that would be
considered a "short field" for my Archer II.
The two instructors that I work with on occasions disagree on the amount of
flaps to use for takeoff at gross weight.
One guy says my airfield with a 2,800ft runway is a "short field"...

What does it cost to own an airplane? by
Larry D. Cosby
What are the real cost of operating a single engine airplane in today's
economy? I've rented planes over the years since I've been a licensed pilot.
(1976) . Would like to own my own, but wife says it cost too much in
maintenance costs to own our own. I'm thinking along the lines of a Piper
180...

I am a low time pilot 100 hours who has time on 150's 172 (new and
old) and on a warrior.
A friend (also low time)and myself want to partner on a plane so we
can build time, go on overnight trips without daily minima and just
generally improve our flying skills. One day or aim is a float plane
