what placards are required? by
Dave Butler
There is a list of placards in the POH (Mooney M20J) and the wording there makes
me think they are all required. Some examples from memory a "DO NOT PUSH",
"NO STEP", "TIRE PRESSURE xx POUNDS". Sorry, I don't have the POH in front of
me at the moment.
The Type Certificate Data Sheet at the...

What Radio Should I Pick???? by
Charles Talleyrand
I have a KX-170 that's *sometimes* just not working right in my VFR
Cessna 150.
For the same price (about $1,300) I could get either
A McCoy MAC-1700 as a slide in replacement for the 170b
-or-
An Icom 200 as an additional radio (with the flaky KX170b as backup).
Any recommendations?

What size fuse for Cessna Clock? by
Mark Martindale
Does anyone know what size fuse is used in the clock circuit in a 172H.
This fuse is located in a holder by the battery box. POH only shows fuse
and no ampere rating. I would guess 1 or 2 amp??
Thanks,
Mark

What sort of plane do I want? by
Paul Tomblin
Ok, when I'm dreaming, I want a deHavilland Beaver on amphib floats
with all the Kenmore mods. But lets be practical here, I haven't won the
lottery.
Is there a plane out there that:
- is on floats (preferably amphibs, but I know they add a lot to the cost)
- can carry two people plus camping...

What thickness for new side windows? by
Ben Jackson
What are the pros/cons of thicker replacement side windows? Does the
thickness of the sides affect noise much? Is the 1/4" replacement stuff
significantly heavier?

What to ask when looking for a plane... by
Dico
Hello,
As some of you may have concluded with my other posts, we're looking at
a getting into a Twin Comanche and I'm curious about what questions to
ask after seeing a listing online and prior to getting to the "pre-buy"
inspection stage.
Currently i'm asking:
1. if all ADs/SBs are complied...

What to buy at OSH this year? by
Jay Honeck
With OSH 2005 fast approaching, the blood is quickening, and there's a new
spring in my step. The Big One is almost here!
However, as we do every year, we're starting to look at Atlas -- our 1974
Pathfinder -- with a jaundiced eye, looking for deficiencies that need
filling, either in his...

What to buy...what to buy? by
Carl J. Hixon
Okay, I always love reading everyone's thoughts on these types of questions
so I'll post one for myself. Well, my wife finally gave me thumbs up to buy
a plane after taking a 6-year break from flying. Well, I'm pretty conservative and worry about losing my job, etc.
But darn it, it is about...

What to look for - bringing an aircraft back to life by
Louis L. Perley III
I seek the collective wisdom of the group. As I have mentioned previously, I
was the co-owner of a 1965 Piper Aztec, due to various conflicts in the
partnership, the plane has not flown in two and a half years (approx.) most
of this time it has been in a heated hangar, but has been out in the...

What type of connector do Northstar M1 M3 use? by
[email protected]
I want to build a cable to run my M1 & M3 at home in demo mode. Both
navigators use the same connector & pinout for their power (connector
P15 on M3, not sure about M1). The connector looks like a Centronics
24-pin, but the edges are more rounded. I showed my local electronic
store my M3 but...

What was he/she doing? No radio, by
NW_PILOT
Went out to the airport this morning about 1:00 am to top off my tanks,
there was an aircraft on the runway it looked like super cub or something
with big tires practicing either high-speed taxiing on the runway or
simulated engine outs and bouncing? I turned on my scanner to find out what
he was...

What was it? by
Jim Burns
Last week I walked up to a couple pilots discussing an airplane that was
sitting on the ramp at STE. They noted that it did not have a data tag on
it so they really weren't sure what it was.
What it looked like was an early straight leg 172 fastback, but it had a
swept tail, not a straight tail. ...

What would you buy with a 50k budget? by
Kirk Ellis[_2_]
A fellow pilot/friend and I have been knocking around the idea of
doing a 2-way partnership on an aircraft next summer. I have had my
ticket since 1998 although I have only 150 some odd hours total. My
friend has about half that. Relatively speaking we still consider
ourselves newbie "students" but...

Hangar tenents,
Hypothetical situation: You're in a hangar. There are no more hangars for
100 miles. There is a waiting list for a hangar just as long. There are
plenty of tie-downs for a poultry 70.00 per month. Just out of curiosity
.... what would be the magic price of hangar rent that...

What's a radio stack really cost? by
Jim Carter
I'm looking at a Skymaster that is mechanically in very good shape, but
is absolutely (just barely) VFR. It has more boat anchors in it than
Tracker Boats sells in a month. So..if a mid-time multi-rated,
instrument pilot was going to spend money on a new radio stack, how much
would he or she have...

What's an old Cessna 300 NAV/COM worth? by
Radu Tenenbaum
We recently replaced one of our Cessna 300 radios (it was still
working) with a TKM MX-300. Someone at our aiport is interested in
buying the old radio and I'm wondering what a fair price would be.
Thanks,
Radu

What's Going on Here? by
Jay Honeck
In 2004 we experienced our #2 cylinder dropping off-line on take-off
from Titusville, FL, resulting in a quick return for landing. No
amount of high RPM leaning would clear it, so we de-cowled the engine,
took all 12 spark plugs out, cleaned them, put them back in, and all
was well.
Conditions...

What's going on here? by
Jay Honeck
Our JPI EDM-700 engine analyzer may have paid for itself today.
Here's the scenario:
Mary is PIC. During her run-up, the left mag dropped a bit more than the
right. She leaned it back (the usual fouled-plug procedure) and it smoothed
out to within specs. Still not as smooth at the right, but...
