Caution - InterAv "Spike Guard" Capacitor by MikeremlaP
Okay guys, I cut the cap open. See foto at http://www.fotolog.net/palmer_mp/ No foil that I can see. In fact, I'm not sure how this thing works. I thought the idea was to create maximum surface area. I probably should have buzzed the negative terminal to the can to see if

Survey - 3 blade prop conversion- Cockpit vibration, happy or not by Fly
Hello Folks, I asking for responses from any who have converted from a 2-blade to 3 blade prop on their plane. I not interested in any performance claims but just specifically the issue of cockpit vibration. The prop mfg's and STC rep's are aware of this issue but express their bewilderment to me....

Stop the noise by airads
Feb. 24 - The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association on Tuesday provided initial support to four Massachusetts pilots - all AOPA members - facing a lawsuit filed by a few residents. The suit alleges that the noise signature from the aerobatics performed by the pilots caused significant harm; they...

mode c intermittent by skyav8r
Howdy, I have an Aeromech 8140B20 encoding altimeter with a KT76 transponder. Mode C is intermittent with ATC. Is it more than likely this is an altimeter problem or transponder problem? Sometimes when it is not reporting, i cycle the transponder off then back on and it starts reporting again. That...

Oversized bolts by Kjell Sivertsen
Over some time the bolt holes in the link between the horizontal stabilizer and the trim mechanism have been elongated. To get rid of the play, I consider installing an oversized bolt. The original bolt is an AN5-7. I am confused about the designation on oversized bolts. Can anyone help ? Thank...

Cessna 172 with Wild Fuel Gauge Needle by jls
Anybody know the reason for this? The needle on the pilot's side is stable, but the needle on the co-pilot side swings wildly, especially when the tank is full. A float moves the needle around the dial. Why doesn't it stay still and be good like its brother?

Garmin GNC 250XL by Jay Honeck
Anyone got one of these units? http://www.garmin.com/products/gnc250xl/ It seems to combine two very useful things (a VFR moving map GPS and a Com radio) into one compact unit. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993

Cessna seat rails by Javier Henderson

How to Avoid Being Grounded. by betwys1
I pulled my plane over to the wash stand to lose the fly squash this evening. It was a little harder than I expected, to pull the 20 yards or so. So I used a gas bottle to fill the tires, and put the bottle in the cockpit while I pulled it back to the hangar. That's when I noticed the...

MX385 Radio removal by Marty from Florida
Hey everyone. I had a radio guy adjust my sidetone from the radio, and he messed it up. No longer is the sidetone faint, it is now completely dead. My question to the group is, what exactly do I need to remove the radio and adjust the sidetone. I have a single hole in the lower center of the...

Cessna Glare Shield Cover by Al Gilson
The glare shield in our 64 Skyhawk is original, therefore not the most pristine to look at. Is there a cover available, such as the carpet covers you see for autos/trucks, available for airplanes? Yes, I know I can get a $200+ plastic cover rom Selkirk or others that covers the entire glare...

Cessna 172 F Weight and Balance by [email protected]
My partners and I recently purchased a 1965 Cessna 172F. The POH has weight and balance data that you would expect, except that it focuses on moment only, gives no arm figure. Usually no big deal. BUT, we recently bought a 396 and it will do the weight and balance data for you if you enter the arm...

True Cost of Owning an Old Bonanza by [email protected]
Hello, I'm interested in hearing from people who have 'real' first-hand knowledge of the true costs of owning an older (early 50s) V-tail Bonanza. I've heard all the horror stories about the outrageous costs; but the thing is that I heard the same stories before I bought my *last* plane (a 1963...

C172 Penn Yan 180 HP Engine Conversion by John Roncallo
Hello Does anyone have any experiance with the Pann Yan 180 HP engine conversion. I have a couple of questions? 1) How many hours did it really take to install it. 2) What is an expected increase in aircraft value? 3) How do you like it? 4) Does it really go 151 MPH

FAA whistleblower by john hawkins
I don't know a thing about it yet, but this whistleblower case in the FAA sure has the potential to become interesting. "I inform my then-supervisor, Anne Bechdolt, Acting Manager, Operations Law Branch, that I refuse to obey an order that would require me to violate the law..." A few things...

Landing a Mooney by Jon Kraus
We just purchased a'79 M20J 4443H. I am in the middle of getting my 10 hours with a CFI for Insurance purposes and I have to tell you that this thing is a lot different to land than a Skyhawk. So far I am glad that my CFI has been with me because 75 percent of the landings have not been pretty....
