141 Schools by
RC_Moonpie
Many of you may not know these places by the phrase "141 school" so I
will give you some great ways to spot them. If the school is a
university flight department, if the name includes the word Academy, or
if their ad says anything that refers to training pilots for an airline
position it is a...

P-1000 digital tech by
[email protected]
I have a Horizon Instruments, Inc. P-1000 Digital Engine Tachometer.
It has a 6-pin connector labeled "Amphenol 14S-6PF". Does anyone have
a source to buy a matching connector to build its hardness? Also,
anyone has pin-out for this unit?
Thanks in advance.

CFI pay, FYI by
gatt[_3_]
I just scoped out a local FBO hiring CFIs (they went from a minimum of
100 hrs experience and CFII last September to hiring brand-new CFIs in
January.)
They charge $44/hr for ground or air instruction and the instructor base
pay is $16 per billed hour.
Free unlimited simulator time, free CFII...

Flying to Galveston (GLS) by
Harry[_2_]
This Monday, my wife and I will be flying to Galveston for the first time.
We are planning on spending about 5 or 6 hours shopping and sight-seeing. If
anyone can offer suggestions as to a good place for lunch and any
peculiarities about the airport, I sure would appreciate it. Also, any...

Southwest gave free training to FAA manager by
Larry Dighera
So, if the airline an FAA inspector is assigned to oversee for
compliance to FAA regulations receives $15,000.00 worth of free
training from that airline contrary to FAA's rules of conduct, was
there a real conflict of interest?

limit of trim = limit of travel? by
Mxsmanic
Are the limits of control surface movements produced by setting trim to its
extremes also usually the absolute limits of travel for those surfaces, or is
it usually possible to move them further with movement of the yoke? Or does
this vary significantly from one aircraft design to another?

Question about term lengths for aircraft loans by
[email protected]
To do some very preliminary budgeting for purchasing an older single
engine aircraft, I need an idea of how long of a term that a finance
company might provide for a 30 year old aircraft. I suspect there must
be a typical limit for aircraft over a certain age.
Does anyone have information that can...

CFI's Wanted by
Ol Shy & Bashful
We have 12 C-172's and a regular turnover of classes as they come in,
finish their training, and ship out again. Very structured, and very
syllabus oriented. Standardized and professional. We are hiring new
CFI's knowing they'll probably leave after a year or so when they get
some experience. This...

Getting "reacquainted with an old friend" now the interconnect spring
tension has been adjusted for the rigging of my plane. Last squawk
remaining is I need some trim adjustment (more nose up) and that will
be taken care of next week.
Did some air work and then a touch and go at KJAN and then a...

Jet turbine starting equipment ? by
Externet
Hi. Could not find a proper group to ask, sorry :
The old Boeing 707 and perhaps others had a tiny 3000+ psi air
compressor on board driven by a hydraulic motor to start engines with
NO ground equipment assist.
Which current aircraft have a similar compressed air starting system
on board ?
Thanks.

Avmap EKP-IV and XM weather/data by
[email protected]
Just got off the phone with Avmap and here's their lastest:
It will be a separate XM box and antenna that interfaces to the EKP-IV
through the serial port.
The XM box is "small" (no dimensions given) and can be stached anywhere.
No mention of whether the XM box has it's own power cable or...

Feds Want to Equipe Gliders With Transponders and Radios by

If this is implemented, will it affect powered aircraft without
electrical systems too?
How much does the gliders right-of-way over powered aircraft affect
this issue?
Is ATC going to take legal and financial responsibility for separation
