plane crashed on takeoff attempt after emergency landing by
Toks Desalu
http://www.wafb.com/Global/story.asp?S=4038264
I found this link in alt.binaries.multimedia.aviation. I thought you guys
should see this. After seeing this clip, I wonder why the pilot would begin
a takeoff rollout with all the vehicles on the side of road. The risk factor
would cut down...

757 avionics by
FriarTuck
some questions if anyone knows the answers...
is 757 fly by wire or fly by cable?
The FMCS has full flight and landing capability, is it a separate control
system?
The FANS network, is it capable of directing "goto location/altitude" and
"set airspeed to K" type commands to the plane?

Dudley and his spammers by
Maxwell[_2_]
As we all know, ever since Dudley posted his intent to leave the group a few
days ago, he has posted a plethora of messages touting other forums, in an
obvious attempt to dilute RAP. I guess I interpret that as a "If I can't
control the group, I'll destroy it attitude", and see this as a very...

Air Carriers and Biz-jets Target GA Recreational Fliers by
Larry Dighera
Air Carriers and Biz-jets Target GA Recreational Fliers
The airline industry is terrified. They've got more aircraft than
they know what to do with, and even more on order. Passengers are
unhappy with the airline travel experience, and their numbers threaten
to dwindle as a result. High revenue...

Minimums? by
Brian[_5_]
While watching a lot of landing videos and whatnot, I hear "minimums"
called out as an aircraft approaches its landing field.
From what I've been told, "minimums" indicates the decision as to
whether or not the field is in sight, correct?
so if minimums are not met, go around? Am I right in...

Visiting USA - recommendations please.. by
OzPilot
Hello everybody.
I am travelling to Las Vegas (from Australia) in March for a work
conference but have three full days in Los Angeles. I thought that I
would use the opportunity to do some flying and maybe even take
advantage of some unusual types that you wouldn’t and couldn’t find in
my part of...

If GA is down, why aren't used aircraft prices? by
Dallas
If the number of private pilots is down from 299,000 to 236,000, why are
prices for used aircraft maintaining and even out pacing inflation?
Economics 101, first day of class - price is determined by supply and
demand. Yet I've noticed over the past couple of years the average price
for a late...

Contra-rotating engine revisited by
Chris W
The previous post on this topic got me wondering. Just how different
would the two engines need to be? I'm no expert, but it seems to me
cam shaft(s), magnetos, and prop are the parts that would be different
from one side to the other. I almost forgot, reverse the polarity on
the starter...

More Aviation Videos by
Jay Honeck
Had some time to kill this afternoon, so I uploaded 18 (yep, EIGHTEEN) new
aviation videos to our website.
These have been sent to me by folks from all over the world. Everything
from video of a new helicopter owner who tried to take 'er for a spin
without the bother of flight lessons (oops!), to...

position and hold at an angle by
Jose
A few months ago there was a discussion here about positioning on the
runway at an angle to better see traffic from the rear while awaiting
takeoff clearance, and I opined in the face of dissent by Steven
McNicoll that it was a good idea.
I had a chance to fly a 172 while I was out west and was...

Trying to Fly by
AliR
Hi everyone,
I am an instrument pilot who hasn't been able to fly but once every 2 months
in the last year or so, because of the fact that I got married, and have a
little one.
I am looking for a place or organization where I can volunteer my time as a
pilot, not have to pay too much for the...

I've lived in this country for many years, paid my taxes, been a
schoolteacher and a Scout leader, and now this:

The restrictions recently placed on 12500 training is being extended to all
aircraft. TSA claims...

How much for a medical in your area? by
Greg Houston
x-no-archive: yes
What are Class III and Class II medicals going for in you area, for
example metro Boston or metro Philadelphia? I've run into the problem
that the AMEs I've called are too busy with their regular practice to
do medicals. Unfortunately, the FAA only permits so many AMEs per
each...

Going through ATL by
[email protected]
I will be flying down to the NASCAR race in Atlanta on March 14th. For
those of you who have flown out of races, it is a pain in the butt to get an
IFR clearance and get out of the airport quickly. By far, the best way is
to take off VFR and try to file and get a clearance in the air. The...

rating, and the plan is to begin training in June (when I have more
money and he has more...
