Flare To Land... by

Pechs will love this one...
The German idiomatic expression approximating the American expression "wimp"
is "sitzpinkler" - literally, one who sits down while urinating.

fleet air arm in the suez by
R4tm4ster
I have read reports that suggest that during the suez campaign ( operation
musketeer) there were a number of westland wyverns from 830 sq ditched
overboard as a result of a hangar fire on HMS EAGLE . I am trying to find out
more about this incident, and about Wyverns generally. Is there any one...

Flight Lessons by
Charles Talleyrand
I'm curious how Air Force/Navy pilots get their wings? Do they go to some place like Emory-Riddle and fly Cessna 172s. Do they get
instrument ratings in these 172s? What's the transition to 'real iron'?
Basically, what's a newly minted Air Force/Navy pilot's logbook look like and where did he...

Flight Wing Size Changes? by
Charles Talleyrand
Did the change from F-14s to F-18s increase or decrease the total
number of planes per ship? Overly simple math suggests that the
amount of room needed to hold 22 F-14s could also hold 30 F-18s.
If the number of planes did not increase, what happened to the extra
space?

FMS Status Of A-6E by
Charles Bethune
Once the A-6E was retired a few years back, Congress approved the
aircraft for Foreign Military Sales. At one point in time France
expressed interest in the A-6E to be used as a shore based tanker.
There does not seem to be much information going around on the
aircraft slated for FMS. Not counting...

Folded wing tip question by
a425couple
I have a old question, maybe someone can refute, or verify?
I tend to mistrust 'sea-stories' w.o. cites. Sometimes I think
they likely true, probably partly true, or unlikely.
But some good ones stick in my mind, from all categories.
Making the rounds circa 1972 was that a F4 with folding...
