Oil on transponder antenna by
Bob
Is it possible that some oil on the transponder antenna would cause it
to transmit intermittently?
I would have wiped it clean and tried it out but it's 5 OVC today....
Thanx

Book review:The Illustrated Buyer's Guide to Used Airplanes by Bill Clarke by
Fred Collins
"Owning a personal aircraft, except for a very few people in unusual
circumstances, simply does not make economic sense. It's a toy and,
invariably, an expensive one. However, for those who want to fly, it's
the best toy in the world, a source of immense satisfaction.
Sadly, many people try to make...

Hours to install S-TEC by
Frode Berg
Hi!
Just a question if there are any mechanics here.
What would the normal install time be for an S-TEC system 20 one-axis
autopilot be into a 1968 Piper Arrow?
Presuming the directional gyro/heading bug is OK, and the NAV instruments
are up to it off course.
Just to have an idea.

A.I.R. Water Detector by
Chris
I have an A.I.R. Corporation Water Detector system installed in my
aircraft. Basically, it is an annunciator light on the panel hooked to
a small probe in the fuel sump that tells me if I have water in the
fuel. A long while back, the system stopped working and I figured it
was the probe that...

Prop Cable - Replacement Needed by
zatatime
Hi,
I own a 1967 Cherokee 235B and am in need of a prop cable. Does
anyone know where I might be able to find a PMA'd new one, or a
salvage company that may have one? I've tried Aircraft Spruce, and
McFarlands and neither have a PMA'd cable for early Pipers as well as
a couple salvage company's...

Limitations of Lemon Pledge by
Jay Honeck
As many of you know, I am a big proponent of using Lemon Pledge to clean an
airplane. It can be used on the Plexiglas safely, and if you spray the
leading edges of the wings with it after each flight, the bugs just swish
right off with little effort.
In fact, that's ALL we have ever washed the...

other items and I'm still having a charging problem. I'm looking for a
shop that knows how to...

Reality of Tie Down (Tiedown) Space at SNA by
Tie Town
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available on the web
(first time for everything) with regard to tie down space in SoCal
(specifically SNA). What is the best way to go about this. I know
there is a waiting list as long as my arm (or longer). But I've also
been told that many people are...

C-172 landing light switch by
JFLEISC
My '61 Cessna landing light switch has two positions; First notch is the taxi
light, and the last notch turns on the landing light but leaves on the taxi
light. Does anyone know of a legal replacement switch that separates the two
lights? (taxi light goes off on the last notch). The reason I ask is...

mitchell autopilot by
dave
Hello, I have a 59 Bellanca Cruisemaster that has a Mitchell Executive
autopilot in it. To engage the autopilot, you push in a knob on the
left side of the panel just left of the vsi and below the ai. When
engaged it would roll left at about a 20 degree bank, so I adjusted
the autopilot trim knob...

Mode C Indication by
Jeff
In everyone's observation, what is the typical difference between the
indicated altimeter reading with current pressure setting and the altitude
reported by mode c transponder. It seems mine always has a discrepancy of
100', sometimes 200' compared to what ATC shows.
Just wondering if it needs...

Halon Fire Extinguisher? by
O. Sami Saydjari
I just got my first issue of "Light Plane Maintenance" magazine.
I am really enjoying it. In their free book "40 Top Maintenance Tips"
(p27), they say "get the Halon extinguisher while they are still legal."
As I recall, there has been some issue that inhaling Halon can be pretty
bad for people's...
