Flight Plan Equiment Codes? by
Mitty
A friend just asked me what code to file with his KNS-80 RNAV. I told him that
I thought it was /I but that I usually filed /A with a KNS-80 because I didn't
want ATC to surprise me with an RNAV approach or some kind of weird RNAV
routing. (I don't use a KNS-80 often enough to be really...

Mo Why publish a plate for an OTS approach? by
[email protected]
What part of your butt did you pull that BS out of?
Congress has nothing to do with the federal register.
Bob Gardner wrote:
An instrument approach is, in effect, an act of Congress. Although
they do it through obscure references to Part 97, each approach must
be published in...

Looking for IPC in Phoenix area... by
Dan
I am looking for an instructor who would be willing to give me an IPC
some weekday evening in the Phoenix area. I can fly out of DVT or CHD.
Insurance requires 500 total time and 25 hours in type (Piper Archer).

Chief Counsel rulings.... by
[email protected]
Anyone know where to view ruling by the FAA's chief counsel? In
particular, I'm looking for the one that that states "departure
procedures" referred to in Far 91.129(g) are only those traffic
pattern departure routes that the FAA sometimes establishes for a
particular airport. As opposed to say...

IFR flight plan cancellation time by
Gerald S.
I had filed a flight plan for 8pm local the other night. I tried
amending the departure time as I was leaving 1.5 hours later than the
proposed time. I called the FSS and was told the IFR flight plan gets
deleted by the system 2 hours after the proposed departure time. I
thought it was 45...

Where is MEPTE by
Jose
How can I find out where the FAA thinks MEPTE is? On the NOS IFR charts
it's charted as in the water (or over it), but when I fly it, it's over
land. I know the NOS charts are not all that accurate (for topography)
but I'd like to know where it is, for a certification flight for our GPS.
Any...

TIM'S ABCS by
epsalant
Once upon a time I used the pneumonic TIM'S ABCS to set up for an
approach. I have forgotten what everything stands for (I believe it
begins Tune, Identify, Markers...).
Does anyone remember the rest? And do you know what book it's from?
Thanks!
Evan

Garmin 496 - TAWS any good for Europe by
Thomas Borchert
Peter,
I am wondering whether the European terrain database is any good.
First, the nitpick ;-) It is not TAWS, but a terrain database. TAWS is
something certified.
Second: Both the units from Garmin (296 and up) and those from Lowrance
(Airmap 600c and 2000c) come in a...

I was looking and found this Garmin page

It seems to be the start of the answer to the question
previously asked about transferring waypoints.

GNS480 Simulator by
John R. Copeland
Garmin AT has made available their simulator for the GNS480.
I don't know how long it's been there, but I just noticed it at:
http://www.garmin.com/products/gns480/
It's a nice step upward from the older CNX80 simulator.

Facilities are important for Air Safety by
WhoGivesAFig?
Contrary to what most of the non-technical idiots in FAA
management think, facilities are important for Air Safety
Systems to check for a dangerous weather condition were
faulty at the time of Sunday's devastating air crash at
Phuket airport, Thai officials say. Some of the airport's
wind...
