Just got around to reviewing all the comments under "Simulators". I guess it was inevitable that it ended up as disagreements with MX. While I don't want to get involved with that dead end, I have had an experience that kind of parallels. As I mentioned before, after I lost my medical, I tried...

Orienting the Approach. by brian whatcott
On transfer from a Class C approach controller to a Class D tower facility under the umbrella, I got the following direction yesterday when flying in from the west: "Fly a right downwind to runway 17L , clear to land." Got the picture? What is the first turn direction? On which runway do you...

Directions And Compasses ? by Bob
Hello, Am not a pilot, but was wondering about this. In commercial aviation, and I guess for private flying also, when directions are given, are they assumed to be True or Magnetic ? What do pilots use these days for direction ? I assume a gyro compass of some sort but am not sure. Is this...

Hobart Fly in Today by brian whatcott
I landed a few minutes after a plane calling "Skytrain..." this morning. What's a Skytrain? I soon found out it's a name for a C-47 aka Douglas Dakota aka DC-3. This one was all dressed up in WWII invasion stripes, and soon carried a stick of paratroops up in WW2 dress (nice brown boots!) for a...

On Topic by birdog[_2_]
Is it possible to get a pilot topic going here? For all the criticism of this guy Max--, the simulation pilot here, at least his posts relate to aviation, however synthetic. How about we try this, just maybe to get some on topic comments. Today, maybe tail-draggers have no legitimate redeeming...

getting into the airplane business by Mark
I'd appreciate any intelligent input into this idea I've had presented to me. Lately several flight schools have mentioned to me they'd be interested in leasing a light-sport plane from me if I purchased one. One person told me about someone who did this with a new Cessna 172, and it was paid off...

FAA has generated a revised policy to permit the use of SINGLE anti-depressant drug prescriptions for pilots. Suicidal ideation, multi-drugs, etc., are disqualifying. This ought to be of particular interest to some users of this group?? Brian W

A Squadron Of Helicopters. by brian whatcott
I was taxiing for the hold of runway 17 at Altus-Quartz Mountain this afternoon, and I heard a call on short finals. At the hold, I saw an unusual sight - five Army red cross Helicopters in line astern, landing on the runway with great deliberation - with "Handle Like Eggs" metaphorically...

I saw the Rockwell Commander sitting out there today and one of our instructors was wiping off the wing. Come to find out it's available but as my instructor pointed out, "Right now it would just be a fun waste of your time and money. Everything would seem like a blur to you and you won't remember...

So this asshole "ari silverstein" whoever that is, floods our newsgroups with racial, anti-semetic, vulgar spamming for a year, making our cyber homes an unsafe and ugly, unuseable place. Then he challenges anyone to do something about it, including a boxing match. BUT IF YOU STAND UP TO THIS...
