Can I modify a used homebuilt aircraft? by [email protected]
If I buy a used homebuilt, is it possible for me to make big modifications, such as installing a larger engine, adding long range fuel tanks, floats, etc., assuming there was an A/P to sign-off on it? Any FAA approvals required? Is it likely an A/P would be willing to make major changes like this...

cad-plated stainless steel? by oilsardine[_2_]
hi, guys, I just ordered some stainless piano-hingepins (pn#03-49000). What Aircraft Spruce delivered were some cad-plated rods. I previously got some stainless and these were silvery-shiny. I complained at AS and they responded that their stainless 302 pins truely were cad-plated (?) I never...

First Flight, actual Homebuilt content by Al G[_2_]
It is a real pleasure to announce that one of our local EAA homebuilders, Frank Varnum, made his first flight in his new RV4. N13MJ's first flight was uneventful. No leaks. No problems. Frank, 90 years old, and his little brother Gordon, 87, built the RV over the last several years. No...

Which Ultralight to build..... by WC
OK, was planning on building a Texas Parasol (as you've probably seen from my previous posts) but it's looking like it may not be a very good design for a legal 103. That being the case, what design to build. I spent a good part of my life as a mechanic, can weld steel and aluminum (stick, mig,...

Aircraft Spruce only keeps records for 2 years?? by Rob Turk
I've had an interesting experience with Aircraft Spruce and I'd like to know if this sounds like normal business behaviour. I have a number of instruments in my Rans S6S which were purchased from A/S about 3-4 years ago. I kept the accompanying forms in a binder for reference. During a burglary...

It doesn't fly, BUT... by Bart[_2_]
I hope I'm not intruding here, but I'm building a car with a plywood monocoque chassis bonded to fiberglass body panels. It's not as bizarre as it may sound: the chassis design is based partly on that of the Marcos GT, which used exactly that model of construction. The chassis designer was Frank...

Flap gap seals made from vertical venitian blinds by One's Too Many
A buddy of mine is contemplating making his flap gap seals from the thin PVC plastic blades salvaged from a set of vertical venitian blinds. The blades are very thin and flexible enough, and more than ample long enough, and are 3" wide, which will need trimmed down to about 2.5" wide so they don't...

brake reservoir installation by [email protected]
I want to use the ACS Model A-600 brake reservoir. It's the kind that screws directly into the master cylinder port. Because of conflict with the pedals I'll have to put one on the right master cylinder on the pilot's side and one on the left master cylinder on the copilot's side. Will this...

Why 2024? by Lou
My plans call for the use of 2024 1.5mm to use in the forming of brackets that will hold the bellcranks. Each part is doubled, (left and right bracket top and bottom parts on the bellcranks), so it seems to be extremly strong. Now, don't get me wrong, I can make a call today and order the material...
