TT21/TN72 power consumption by
jfitch
For those of you contemplating this, I've made some rough power measurements. Sitting in my shop with a clear view towards the airport, the TT21 is reporting nearly constant interrogations, and drawing between 120 and 150 ma. The TN72 alone draws about 70 ma. When both are powered and broadcasting...

Pee receptacle by
Poppy Puppy
Some years ago a friend had a pee receptacle that, when stored, looked like a 35mm film container (remember those?), but contained a bladder that held about a litre of fluid.
Does anyone know of the product its name, and who stocks them?

Aileron "tuning" or "trimming" by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I have a PW-5 that requires side pressure on the stick at all times to correct a tendency to bank to the right. More pronounced at higher speeds, of course. Wing tape helps a little but doesn't eliminate it. But there is a visible tiny difference in aileron position from one side to the...

Radios for free! by
Terry Slater
I have 1 Filser ATR500 panel mount and 1 ICOM A22E handheld free to a good
home, preferably for a youth gliding group. You pay the shipping from the
UK.
Both units are serviceable, removed from use as we now have 8.33 KHz
channel spacing in Europe.

GPS vs Gliding Computer by
Mike Reid
Right after I win the lottery, I'm going to buy a Stemme. I've never flown a glider with either a GPS unit or a gliding computer, and I see that the Stemme comes with both. What do you get with one that you don't get with the other, and vice versa?
Any information would be appreciated.

MicroAir Radio problems... by
Steve Hill
A couple of years ago I purchased a brand new MicroAir 760 tranceiver. I
kept it in the box, planning on exchanging it, as my trusty old Dittel
FSG60m was starting to make funny noises and not quite act right...When the
Dittel finally gave up the ghost one day, I set to installing the MicroAir.
My...

Replacement Convex O2 Cylinder by
[email protected]
I took my steel O2 bottle from a PIK 20B to be tested and refilled, somehow it got lost in the process. They did give me a new bottle after five months of looking for it. However it doesn't quite fit the built in fuselage tunnel on the PIK correctly.
The original bottle had a convex bottom and...

sunlight readable iphone by
[email protected]
Does anyone have any data on whether the iPhone X OLED screen will be more sunlight readable than previous iPhones? The brightness spec looks the same (625cd/m2), but I see no data on the screen reflectance.

Boise Pilot
Due to last minute cancellations we have one possible two spaces open for gliders needing tows. The regatta's first day of towing is July 23 and the last day is Aug. 5. This is mountain and valley flying. No ballast. On non flying days there is biking, fishing, hiking. Airport is just under...

Pitot system - odd event by
Del Jensen
On tow the other day the airspeed indicator jammed and the digital airspeed read about 20kts too high. When I got down the digital airspeed was 30kts with the glider stopped, and turning off the unit (S80) and re-initialing the tas read 30kts. Upon examination the diaphragm was found to be...

A Simple Question About LiFePO4 Batteries by
[email protected]
Not to start another chapter in "Battery Wars" but I have a simple question about "drop in" LiFePO4 battery replacements for SLA batteries in gliders.
For years, I've used an SLA battery with the same footprint as the common glider size of 7Ah to 9Ah--i.e., 5.95" x 2.56"--except a little...

Soaring not compatible with modern society? by
[email protected]
I'm wondering how much the modern reluctance to land out and desire for collision avoidance technology is driven by an underlying fear that if society knew about soaring, society would ban it. Granted no one wants to die or have anyone else die but we've been recreational flying for 100 years and...

Landing with reduced airbrake by
Richard McLean[_2_]
Hi guys,
Our club is having a discussion about the merits of reducing airbrake on
short final (well before the flare) in order to reduce the rate of descent
on
the last part of finals - in particular after using full airbrake to
correct an
overshoot i.e. you are still overshooting but reduce...
