Pilots by Slick
Passengers on a small commuter plane are waiting for the flight to leave. They're getting a little impatient, but the airport staff assures them that the pilots will be there soon, and the flight can take off. The entrance opens, and two men dressed in Pilots' uniforms walk up the aisle. Both are...

I can teach anyone how to get what they want out of life. by reynArd
"I can teach anyone how to get what they want out of life. The problem is I can't find anybody who can tell me what they want." -- Mark Twain "Today people in America can become whatever they want. Trouble is most don't know what they want." -- Earl Nightingale What do you want? Are you sick of the...

Go-arounds by Ramapriya
Just curious... do airliners view go-arounds unfavorably against pilots in, say, their appraisals or performance reports? Ramapriya

Cielo Duro (chronicles of PPL license in Italy) by Nirodh
Hello everybody, since very seldom I see posts from italian pilots, although we (the italians) have a good reputation among flying community, I would like to share my short experience as training pilot in Italy. A week ago I did my last training flight, which was a crosscountry solo flight of 160...

Weather Question: forecasting clouds by Jonathan
I've been wondering about this for a while now, and am sure someone here will know... How can I find/figure out what the forecast cloud bases will be 3 or 4 days out? I've looked on ADDS, AOPA's weather, NOAA.gov, etc but not found anything. In other words, if I'm going flying in a few days,...

American Airlines Removes Pillows From MD-80 Flights by nobody
For flights of under 3 hours that are daytime, pillows are not really necessary if the seats are comfortable. Consider that pillows during a daytime flight are often stowed in some overhead bin, reducing available bin space for passengers.

Anybody know what an Argus is worth? by kage
I am supposed to list a couple of avionics items for my flight department. I pretty much know how much a GPS-155XL is worth, but the Argus 5000/CE is a mystery. I've looked in Trade-a-Plane, Eastern Avionics, and the history search on Ebay. No Joy. I don't really want to auction it off with no...

Medicals and LSA by doc
My medical will be up soon. I've no reason to think I can't pass again, but the LSA rule does seem to present a powerful argument for not trying. Do any DME's agree to give the test first, then forget they ever saw you if you fail?

Thank You, Veterans by Jay Honeck
On this, the Armistice Day (now known as Veteran's Day) of the "War to End All Wars", it's only right and fitting that we take a moment to thank those here who have served our country. I know there are many veteran pilots who populate this group. I, for one, salute you all, and thank you for...

Anyone have an airport diagram for Toronto Center City airport? by Peter R.
Argh! Last week (about nine shipping days ago) I ordered both approach charts for lower Ontario, Canada, and a low altitude IFR en route chart from Pilotshop.com in lieu of my upcoming flight to Toronto from NY state. This afternoon, a mere day and a half before my trip, Pilotshop sends me an...

Most experienced CFI runs out of gas by Robert M. Gary
The local news is reporting that a local CFI (with over 30,000 hours of instruction giving since the early 1960's) ran out of gas just short of the airport after picking up a P210 and flying back from Texas to California. Boy, if it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone. It will be interesting...

When has it Been too Long before you solo by JustMe
As a society, we are obsessed with Numbers. We use them to compare ourselves to others. I make X number of dollars, I have house of Y square feet. My car, truck or other vehicle has an engine of W liter (cubic inches for the metrically challenged). As such, when someone asks "What is the average...

Flying to St. Louis for Thanksgiving by Hjk40
I am planning a flight to St. Louis for the holiday. Never having flown there before, I'm not familiar with the local airfields. It looks like Creve Cour would be the most convienient as far as proximity to our final destination. Anyone have any input on other factors regarding airports in the St...

Angelina Jolie flying a Cirrus? by Thomas Borchert
Nomen, so plastic surgery is not disqualifying on a medical. Good to know. BTW, as a student, I wouldn't have grasped that there was a chance and need to explain that much about GA. That comes later, in my experience. -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH)
