EPA update by
Skylune
Well, I did hear back from the EPA concerning a local GA airport's efforts
to get an exemption from regulations concerning fuel storage. You see,
one of my most annoying local airports sits atop an important aquifer that
supplies the whole region with groundwater. The local FBO's (who control
the...

PPL Flight Expenses Legal? by
Flyin'[email protected]
On Tuesday I must make a trip to a customer site. It is about a 3 hour
drive, but I can make the trip by flying myself in 36 minutes. My company
pays for mileage if by car, and no policy setup for renting a plane and
flying myself.
Let's assume my company will pay the cost of plane rental... If...

The President Is Not Making Any Friends With His 3,000 Square Mile TFRs by
Larry Dighera
What can be done to keep this President in the White House? He's got
over 2,000 square miles of airspace restricted there. Believe me, no
one wants to hear his lies in Los Angeles.

Relief Flights - restoring faith by
ShawnD2112
Folks,
I've got to say that I'm humbled by the message traffic I've seen here of
people organizing GA to provide much needed support to the relief efforts
after Katrina. If I weren't on a different continent and only flying a
Pitts, I'd join you. I'm glad to see so many people willing to put a...

Save the Mustangs? by
Jay Honeck
So, after our long, drawn out thread (last month) about whether P-51
Mustangs should be flown, only kept on static display, and/or are worth
saving for future generations, it turns out to all be a moot point -- these
guys are gonna build new ones!

Nearly had my life terminated today by
Michelle P
Hi all,
While I was on my way home this evening from Flying Traffic survey. I
was nearly run over by a Baron driver coming out of Stafford Airport
(RMN) on his way to Frederick (FDK).
He called Potomac approach saying level 3200. I was cruising at 3000
between Stafford, Virginia near Quantico...

Run-through charts, any software for extrapolation? by
Peter Clark
If one has the run-through style performance charts for a light twin,
does anyone know of a planning package which will then extrapolate out
the appropriate information for accel-stop, accel-go, se climb rate,
etc and print out a plan with the appropriate extra info (above
time&fuel)? Seems like...

Rob Montgomery
First, I'm really conflicted about doing this (it is shameless
promotion), but it is aviation related.
It's obvious to most pilots that most of the post-Sept. 11 restrictions
are, at best, foolish and ineffective, and some of them are downright
dangerous. Unfortunately, most people don't know how...

airfields with a tower that doesn't control pilots? by
Cub Driver
Last week I was in Greenland, at Narsarsuaq, formerly the USAAF and
USAF airfield Bluie West One.
It's a fabulous place, but one aspect of the Narsarsuaq airfield
really astonished me. There is a tower, six days a week during normal
daylight hours, but the tower only gives advice; the pilot is...

bio-diesel hybrid future by
John T
I think bio-diesel is overblown. The premise of this stuff is to use
recycled cooking oil. Even if every resturaunt in the world recycled its
cooking oil, there simply isn't enough to meet the demand if that method
were to become poplar.

Stop whining, America! by
Jay Honeck
Everywhere, every day on the radio, television, and in the newspapers, all I
hear is how the "Record Price of Oil" is killing America.
Yet, strangely, Americans keep driving *more*. And I don't see anyone
flying less.
How can this be?
Here are some encouraging stats from the current issue of...

New Orleans, fill it with dirt by
Doug
Not as crazy as it sounds. Dig a big lake, convey the dirt over. All
the houses worth saving, raise them up on a new foundation. The
skycrapers, just make the bottom floor a basement. Expensive? Yes, but
a permanent solution. Better than it happening again.
