TBO Increase? by Jay Honeck[_2_]
I was just reading Flying magazine's article on the Diamond DA20 XLS (or whatever they're calling their new, spiffed-up model), and noted that the TBO on the IO-360 was listed as 2200 hours. Is that accurate? I thought all Lycosaurs of the 360 vintage had 2000 hour TBOs... -- Jay Honeck Iowa...

Piper single axis autocontrol question redux. by Mike Noel
Just to finish this thread, the fix for the bridle cable wraps slipping around the aileron servo capstan was relatively simple. There is a recessed set screw in the front face of the capstan holding the bridle cable locking pin. The mechanic backed out the set screw with a .050 allen wrench,...

Compass trouble by Road Dog
I took my Piper Warrior in for its annual and the mechanic said that the compass card was missing and that he'd have to swing the plane to generate a new one. After swinging it, he claimed that he couldn't get the E-W deviation within the minimum. So he suggested we try "mu" shield (or something)...

PA28-180 Wing Jack recomendations by Mike Noel
Thinking about buying a wing jack for my Archer. I see a couple of designs sold by Spruce, one a simple hydraulic jack with an adapter for cradling the bottom of the main gear strut, another designed to catch the coned lift point under the wing. Is there a reason to prefer one style over the...

Real or smoke from XM and AvMap by Mike Isaksen
I didn't go to SnF this year, so I did not get to hear the AvMap rep once again blow smoke about being 6 months away from WX. Now XM issues press release that "they are proud to have AvMap as their newest working partner in bringing XM Wx into the cockpit". Anybody go to the Booth and see some...

ZAON XRX Problem by Steve - KDMW
Anyone seen this?... I have a new XRX that I've flown with about 10 times now. Today, when I turned it on, all I got on the display was a light gray solid square. It never got as far as the ZAON splash screen. The audio went through a sequence of two beeps and "test". Beep beep "test", beep beep...

Backup attitude indicator on older Cirrus by [email protected][_1_]
Has anyone seen an installation of a backup attitude indicator in an older Cirrus without the PFD? Every panel I've seen has the same layout, and there doesn't appear to be any extra space. It looks like an HSI could be installed and the space for the CDI/Glideslope could be used for an attitude...

AI sometimes slow to come up to speed by Peter R.[_2_]
My attitude indicator was last replaced back in November 2006 with a Mid-Continent overhauled unit. Since then I have flown on average twice every single week of flights an hour or less in duration. Thus, there are about 180 hours or so on this air-driven AI but it is out of warranty. Around ten...
