Cont 300C Vacuum pump STC by
gt
I would like to make my 1960 Cessna 172A IFR. Currently, I have only
venturi vacuum. My A & P stated that as there is no STC for a vacuum
pump intall, I need a form 337 field approval...I think it is form 337,
I could be wrong on that. Does anyone have information relating to
STC's and field...

Cont O-300D oil leak problem by
[email protected]
I don't know what to do about this . . . hoping the collective wisdom
here might have some ideas. For the last 3 months or so, after every
flight, there are small streaks of oil on the inside of the lower
cowling on my 67 'Hawk . . . if I don't wipe them up, they drip down on
the tire of my nose...

Contact cleaning on older Nav radio by
Mike Noel
I'm pulling out my older RF gear 1 by 1 to use a little Radio Shack contact
cleaner on the interior switches. On my Nav radio I noticed a bank of
rotary resistors (guess they are resistors since they are labeled R1, R2
etc.) and I am tempted to treat them and turn the pots back and forth a bit
to...

CONTACT!! Er, I mean, CONTRACT!! by
Douglas Paterson
Thanks in large part to the help I've found on this board, I am nearing (I
hope!) the finish line on my path to airplane ownership. As of yesterday,
I'm under contract for the Socata Trinidad (TB-20) I've had my eye on!
:):):)
That does leave me with one teensy questions...:
WHAT THE HELL DO...

Continental E-225-4 question by
Jim Carter[_1_]
TTE: 2135
SMOH: 1316
STOH: 16
I realize this is an OLD engine model that will probably have to be switched
to an IO-470 or IO-520, but given these numbers and if it has had no really
long periods of idle time, would you be worried beyond reasonable doubt
about getting another 300 to...

Continental IO-360 question by
Jeff P
I have a Cessna 172XP with the 195 HP Continental IO-360. The engine
runs great but is at 1400SMOH and is approaching TBO.
From the bottom of each cylinder head there is a small aluminum tube.
These tubes are manifolded together on each side of the engine and
routed down the firewall to vent...

Continental IO-520A operating data? by
Michael
Does anyone out there have power setting and fuel flow data for a
Continental IO-520A engine? These were installed on some 1970's era
Bonanzas, and someone whose opinion I respect mentioned that the power
setting and fuel flow data in the aircraft POH were based more on
marketing requirements than...

Continental O-300 - high time, what to do? by
Charlie Gibbs
The O-300 in my 172B is up to 1650 hours (150 to major). But I've
had various problems that in recent years have resulted in annuals
costing $5000 or more - and now my oil consumption is creeping up.
I'm thinking that it might be time to bite the bullet rather than
be (figuratively) nickeled and...

Continental O-300 longevity by
Mel
Can an 0-300 last a long time?
I just bought into a C-172 with an O-300, approx 700 SMOH. It is down
for an annual and we have discovered #2 and #4 cylinders have sticky
valves. One of the valves will need to be replaced.
Surely there is a time-tested set of techniques somewhere on how...

Control surface repair legal? by
[email protected]
OK... I've got a question. I've seen a number of aircraft around that have
had little patches and repairs made on them. Sometimes on a wing or fuselage,
sometimes on an elevator, sometimes on an aileron. I've heard that it is illegal to
patch moveable control surfaces, but yet I've seen...

Control surface repair legal? Part II by
[email protected]
A few weeks ago, I acquired the "collective usenet wisdom" on whether or not moveable control surfaces are repairable. The
answer I received was that "It depends on whether or not the service manual allows it." As an example, I looked through a Piper
Cherokee service manual which said that the...

Convert Cherokee 140 to 180? by
Tim Long
Our 140 is coming up on 1600 hrs TBO.
We really hate what a dog it is and would like more power.
Planning ahead, we've thought of a few options:
1 - 160 hp conversion (this is almost the minimum we'd do)
2 - Powerflow exhaust (article in Plane and Pilot claims 20% power
improvement - can it be...

Cool new aircraft tool by
[email protected]
Forgive the intrusion -- I hope I'm not out of line with a "new
product" announcement. I just wanted to let everyone know about it.
After years of changing the oil in his Cessna 182, my buddy and
business partner invented a VERY cool gadget for airplane owners. It's
also great for a ton of other...

Cool Oil Temperatures by
Ross and Paula Richardson
I own a '65 Cessna Skyhawk with a Lycoming O-360-A1A turning a constant
speed prop. I recently read an article in the Cessna Pilot's Association
on too high of oil temperatures, but that is not my case. I have been in
contact with them and they also suggest I get the wisdom of the NG. The
oil...

Copper Cables Work: Update by
Bud Patterson
This is an update from last fall, when a new 'lightweight'
Magnaflite starter and a new battery were installed in
my Warrior to help with hard starting.
The starting was still hard, until I cleaned all the aluminum
cable contact points. Then, I didn't get the 'stop/hesitation
on the first blade'...
