5 volt DC power converters by John Ferguson
Some time ago I noticed in a post a link to a DC/DC converter IC. I'd like to investigate these and would appreciate a repost if possible. I have tried searching the archives but can't come up with the right search phrase or the post is older than I remember. Thanks, John

Transponder petition by Ian Cant
Wish we'd had this discussion before the SSA drafted its petition. Seems to me the petition is unsatisfactory because it is confusing or poor law, it does not address the full set of transponder issues, and it just might open up an adverse review of our existing exemption. To address these...

Porsche Trade for Sailplane??? by DonDLHMN
I'm considering the purchase of a glider this year and also need to make some space in my garage, thus the desire to trade (plus/minus cash) my 1991 Carerra 2 Cabriolet for a glider. I would primarily be interested in a Discus B, but for the right deal would consider one of the following (in order...

LINUX flight software by Bill Daniels
Apparently, there are a few people out there working with Linux for gliding applications. (Thanks for the links) Maybe it's a good thing. I keep thinking that the potential user base in this space is so small that if the PDA based apps split it, there won't be all that much profit to support a...

Air Tour Safety Standards NPRM by Vaughn
The FAA is now conducting a "public meeting" via Internet on the sightseeing NPRM. I have not seen any comments there (other than my own) from glider people. I really suggest that you take another look at that NPRM, read the comments, read the responses from the FAA, and say your piece. Interest...

More on transponder petition by Ian Cant
I apologize for my loose terminology in last message. Gliders are exempted within the FAR section 215 from transponder requirements, not by a separate 'exemption letter'. And I was not clear about why I distinguished the 'all airspace above 10,000 ft' from the 'more than 40 / 20 miles'...

Transponders and Radios - USA by Ray Lovinggood
While I would like to have a transponder installed, I don't have two necessary items: 1. Money 2. Panel Space My panel isn't overly large and doesn't have room for a B-50 (two holes) AND room for a 'back-up' variometer. So, when I 'splurge' for another instrument, it will be for a B-50 and not a...

Registered BLIP-MAP users, fill out survey by Stewart Kissel
I received it and filled it out, some changes which will no doubt get discussed here in the works. Give yourself a few minutes to fill it out, it is an indepth survey. And for what it's worth, I would like to see SSA sponsor this product.

World Records by Nick Gilbert
Can anyone think of a reason why there are separate mens & womens world records? The ease of 'relief' is the only disadvantage I can think of for women. I'm not saying that I think there shouldn't be! Nick.

Zen and the Art of Landouts by Doug Hoffman

Good Lift at Marfa February 22 by Snead1
Today, Sunday February 22, soaring conditions were very good in Marfa Texas. Cloud base was about 13,500. Thermals varied in strength, but I make a few turns at over 7 knots. Wind was about 15 mph out of the south. I did not find any wave. Bill Snead 6W

Landout Laws by Charles Petersen
We had two landouts at Seminole yesterday, both in the same field, - a pasture with cattle and a locked gate. One of the pilots visited a nearby farmhouse, and spoke with the wife of the property owner asking permission to enter and a key. She was very nice and called her son. He agreed to call...
