C-17s and the Union Flag by
Jim Doyle
Has anyone noticed the Union Flags on the RAF's C-17's? Is it me, or are
those on the starboard forward fuselage upside-down?!
May be they're in distress?

C-5 Galaxy hit by missile over Baghdad by
Aerophotos
Seems in the news, a USAF C-5 Galaxy was hit by a unkown missile over
Baghdad, it then landed due to USAF reasons "was a excessive noise
vibrations in a engine" - no mention of missile at all when first
published.
Some noise vibrations eh?, imagine if it was shot down?
USAF PR would describe it...

C-5 longevity by
Eric Moore
With the appropriate upgrades, the C-5 can last for another
25 years or so. See:
http://aviationnow.com/avnow/news/channel_aerospacedaily_story.jsp?id=news/glxy07164.xml
Is it worthwhile to upgrade the C-5's, or should we just build more
C-17's?

CAF Sea King lives on! by
Ed Majden
Just heard on the radio that Sea King pilots in the C.A.F. will be given a
course on how to ditch safely in the ocean! I think some of them know the
technique already! I wonder if the political decision makers will be
invited to go along as passengers???????

Calling Tom Cooper. . . Iran stuff. . by
Drewe Manton
Hi Tom,
Just reading the Osprey Iranian Phantom ops book, and in it you make
reference to IIAF/IDF exchanges. Do you have any more info on this? It kind
of makes sense in terms of the 1970's and the fact the Iranians are
Persians rather than Arabs, but is still the first I've heard of it, and
I'd...

Can anyone identify this plane please? by
Andrew Fergus
I think it is either a Hawker Hart or its variant, a Hawker Audax. If anyone can confirm once and for all I'd really appreciate it.
The gentleman standing with it is Bob Fergus, an RAF Fitter and my grandfather

Can anyone verify this story about Blackbirds? by

I remember reading about SR-71(Blackbird) aircraft flying in Swedish
airspace on recon missions to Russia, chased by the Swedish air force.
Apparently the Swedish aircraft never got into air even before the
Blackbird had exited Swedish airspace. The Blackbird pilots even sent
the Swedes Christmas...

Can the V-22: bring back the Rotodyne! by
Tony Williams
The problems which have been experienced by the V-22 Osprey are a
reminder of one very successful alternative: the Fairey Rotodyne. See:
http://www.groenbros.com/tech/FaireyRotodyne.htm
This was a large, passenger gyrodyne which had a separate lift rotor
and two turboprops mounted on a short wing....
