Sully retires by Kingfish
I just read that Capt. Sullenberger is retiring at the age of 59. I don't blame him, as all the BS airline pilots have to endure probably makes the job not so much fun now. He could stick around until he's 65 but his decision was probably helped by the $3.2M deal he signed for two books. Good for...

OT; Tired of Google Groups, any suggestions? by Ricky
I just decided to go back to Free Agent after a too-long absence and, alas, Forte has discontinued it to focus on their money-generating options. I looked at X News which sounds great, I was just wondering what ya'll use and like (BESIDES Google, thanks) before plunging into a download. OH - I...

IFR in uncontroller airspace by Danny Deger
Has anyone out there ever flown IFR in uncontrolled airspace without a flight plan. I understand there are places out west that still have large tracts of uncontrolled airspace that go up to altitude (14,500 feet??). I am used to it either ending at 700 or 1200 feet AGL. Danny Deger

Is lateral acceleration an accurate indication of slip? by jschall
I am a former student pilot (with about 15 hours) who is developing an autonomous UAV. I've read contradicting reports that lateral acceleration is and isn't an accurate indication of slip. The inclinometer ("the ball") in a full scale/manned airplane measures lateral acceleration. I've read that...

folding bicycle - Cardinal RG by Stephen N Mills
I am planning to buy a folding bicycle for use in Vicky (N2679V - Cardinal RG '75). Eventually there will be two bicycles, his and hers. Occasional use for trips up to 5 or 10 miles in moderate hills, no mountain biking, no centuries. More than three speeds would be nice but I don't know...

Chart question by BTB
Did my BFR yesterday and while going over the local sectional, I noticed something and asked the instructor about it. It was a dashed blank line, labelled 'underground pipeline'. Now I have to ask - why if it is underground, is it on the chart ? What is the possible value of it being there ? BTB

Epiphany #132 by Jay Honeck
As we were flying along yesterday, en route to a good lunch in a nearby town, it happened again. There I was, sitting comfortably at 3500 feet, as rock solid as I am right now, gazing down upon freshly harvested fields and newly barren trees. The sun was warm on my face, but the air was cool. ...

Lightspeed 30-3G by KevinBlack
Upgraded from the 25XLs. I've only used them a couple of times (dollars and time need to converge in a mystical synergy). Not having the old 25XLs it's hard to compare, but my overall impression is that they are nowhere near as good (ANC) as the 25XLs. They seem to be much more 'noisy' (tech...

9:19pm Sunday... Ok, I kid you not... I JUST got an "attempt" at a collect call... from the Oshkosh Correctional Institute! Now, I admit to be terrible at remembering names, but if there is a Louis Penna in the group, I'm sorry for not accepting the charges. Jim
