XCSoar - Future Developments by
Mike Roberts
I simply don't have the time to devote to this project any more other than
items that for my own personal interest.
Rather than let it die, I have decided to publish the source code so you can
all experiment and potter to your hearts content.
I've created a Yahoo group to be the focal point for...

Cross country in the 1-34 by
mat Redsell
I did all of my early cross country in a 1-34. I was amazed at the
effectiveair brakes on this sailplane that allowed me to land anywhere. Am
I correct in assuming that this glider is an excellent one to start cross
country training. Is there another glider one would recommend and...

Is Gliding and Motorgliding International now dead? by
Nick Olson
Is Gliding and Motorgliding International now dead?
Although I always questioned the 'international' bit
of the site, it had some great articles. Since Gillian's
depature the site doesn't seem to have been updated.
Has there really been no news for 15 days. Or is this
indicative of the SSA's new...

SeeYou vs Winpilot by
Pete Startup
I have been playing with both of these programs in
Simulator mode and still can't decide which I prefer.Has
anybody actually flown with both systems that can give
a qualified assessment?Maybe some of the Comp pundits
have compared notes about the systems and could share
their views.

Training in the Winter - location? by
JohnGamble
Hello,
I'm new to this group so maybe this topic has been covered before, but
I thought I would ask:
I have taken 7 or 8 lessons scattered over the last 5 years but I just
haven't been able to dedicate the time yet to complete my glider
rating. I've also spent a fair amount of time soaring with a...

ASW-27B ballast tank ventilation by
Andy Blackburn
Anyone out there have good plans for the factory-recommended
ballast tank ventilation system? I've heard of (but
haven't seen) designs that include humidity sensors
so they know automatically when to turn off.
Thanks!

Pocket-PC checklist before flight by
Jim Kelly
Greetings!
It's the beginning of our soaring season here in Australia - and
thought I'd start a checklist for setting a Pocket-PC before (and
after) use with navigation. During the week my Pocket-PC is an
invaluable work tool - but some of it's 'features' are nuisances
in flight!
Anyone out there...

Thanks to all! by
JohnWN in Burke, VA
Your response to my Learning to fly question was very helpful and gives me
lots to consider. I'm going to try to swing the Tom Knauff and Doris Grove
school. When I really do something, then I post my experience, but that
will probably be many months from now.
Thanks ...john in Burke, VA, USA

Sailplane & Gliding update by
Chip Fitzpatrick
All:
Yes the SSA is taking back the magazine which was transferred to
Gillian in 2003. It was originally started by the SSA.
The ExComm discussion on the subject was held in Mid September. That
was the first most of us knew that Gillian was retiring.
As of now, there is no editor. Discussions...

Learning to fly... by
JohnWN in Burke, VA
Hi, I'm looking for a way to learn to soar that is safe, efficient, and as
inexpensive as possible because I have to sell this to my wife.
Since I live in the Washington, D.C. area, I believe that the best soaring
areas are probably in New York and in the western USA (I ignorant so please
correct...

damage to composite structures by
Ian Molesworth
This article details talks about laying optical fibres within composite
structures to detect failures.
http://www.iop.org/EJ/abstract/0964-1726/13/6/002/
I wonder if one of the manufacturers will snag onto this and lay a few
fibres up the mainspars of new ships and perhaps along some areas of...

Off Topic - Win CE Devel Tools? by
Mark Zivley
It's not the best group for this question, but there are probably a
number of people from this group who might have some qualified
recommendations.
I'd like to write some programs for my Compaq Aero. First on my list is
a weight and balance program customized for my glider, but there are a
small...

Looking for sample lease-back contract by
Roger Kelly
I'm purchasing a glider with the intention of making it available to the
club and I need to make a simple lease-back agreement with the club.
Searching the internet for samples I came up with some 10-page documents
that are way overkill. Anybody got a lease-back agreement they'd be
willing to...
