Anywhere WX users - free tool for easier e-mail, waypoint entry, etc... by
Mark Astley
Please excuse this shameless plug...
For Anywhere WX users (well actually, anyone using a PocketPC while
airborne), I've created a custom Soft Input Panel (SIP) which lets you enter
commonly used text fragments with a single tap. There are also some more
advanced features in the works, like the...

AnywhereWx vs. AirGator NavAirWx by
Jonathan Goodish
Thanks to all who replied to my in-flight weather questions.
I think that I've narrowed my selection down to a PDA solution using the
iPaq 4700, along with packages for XM weather an moving map from either
Control Vision (AnywhereWx) or AirGator (NavAirWx).
Detailed information on the web sites...

AnywhereWX??? by
mtmueller
After considerable research, I have pretty much written off adding weather
to my Garmin 530 right now. It looks like the GDL-49 just doesn't do what I
want, and is too susceptable to interference for efficient delivery of
detailed weather, and you have to add another damned VHF antenna (which
would...

My AOPA membership comes up for yearly renewal at the end of September.
Today, I got a membership renewal request via email from the organization.
Here is my response:

AOPA Sells-Out California Pilots in Military Airspace Grab? by
Larry Dighera
Another attempted military airspace grab?
The USMC wants to convert the San Onofre High and Low MOAs, that lie
along the busy, aircraft-congested Pacific coastline, into a
Restricted Area: R-2503D. The USMC say they need 38% higher
Restricted Airspace to conduct live-fire artillery and aerial...

Coming along slowly. If you're interested check it out. Looks like the

they're out there.

Approach From a Hold by
Mitty
Question for the controllers he
The KMIC VOR-A is a pretty vanilla approach. The FAF is the Gopher VOR (GEP)
about 5 miles north of the field. The missed procedure is to go back to GEP and
hold north, left turns -- depicted as a dotted race track on the plate. (The FAA
link seems to be broken...

Approach Plates on PDA (PIREP) by
Stan Prevost
A few days ago there was a thread here discussing how to make use of digital
NACO approach plates on a PDA. The context was that a pilot could download
and print fresh current charts for the primary airport(s) and alternate(s),
and have charts for other airports available on a PDA for use in the...

Approach plates on pocket PC? by
paul kgyy
I'm looking for the ability to just load and read approach plates on my
Ipaq. I know that Control Vision has their Pocket Plates, but with a
Garmin 430 I don't need geo-referencing, etc etc.
Anyone know of simpler setups available? I'd guess there should also
be a way to limit what you load by...

Approach Question by

Greetings,
First off, please tell me if this is the right forum for newer-minted IR
pilots to discuss approach questions?
If so, have a look at this one :

Approach Question- Published Missed Can't be flown? by
Brad Z
Question for the gallery-
Refer to the FCI ILS 33 Approach
http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0405/06066I33.PDF
The published missed approach requires tracking to the flatrock VOR (FAK).
For the past few months, the following notam has been published: FAK VOR
067-230 UNUSBL. So basically, you'd need...

Approach Questions by

A few questions came up in ground school that had me stumped. Any insight

Why do some approaches say Radar required when all the fixes can be
identified using other equipment required for the approach? For example,

When a holding pattern is published in lieu of a...

Approach speeds for ILS by
C J Campbell
We get foggy here at Tacoma Narrows this time of year (which is the reason I
post more on these groups in the winter than in the summer). One thing we
see a lot of is guys who fly the ILS too fast.
I have no problem with flying the ILS at 90 or 100 knots if the ceiling is
well above minimums, but...
