C-130 follow-on by
Harley W Daugherty
Is there a plan to replace the Venerable C-130 or upgrade it to a new level
of performance?
I did at one time see a print that showed a "tilt-Wing" variant, for Extreme
short field take offs, but nothing else.
Could the Fuselage be widened to accommodate the Stryker Wheeled APV with
its add-on...

Did the Germans have the Norden bombsight? by
Cub Driver
Reading what appears to be a solid history of FDR and espionage.
Author makes the flat statement that in 1940 someone in the Norden
plant smuggled out the plans, which went to Germany. From these, the
Germans "developed their own bombsight," presumably based on the
Norden. The author points out the...

ISRAELI LINK IN US TORTURE TECHNIQUES by

Looks like the Israeli association to the intelligence/torture is completely
being white washed for Israel (read former Republican Congressman Paul

Stryker is a piece of ****! by
noname
According to internal Pentagon e-mails obtained by Newsweek, the Humvee
situation is so bad that the head of the U.S. Army Forces Command, Gen.
Larry Ellis, has urged that more of the new Stryker combat vehicles be
put into the field. Sources say that the Army brass back in Washington
have not yet...

RAF Merlins cannibalized for parts. by
Henry J Cobb
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/04/09/nraf09.xml&sSheet=/news/2004/04/09/ixhome.html
The reason for the lack of Merlin spares is that when the MoD embarked
on the Merlin programme in the early 1990s, it decided to cut costs by
not buying any spare parts, the sources...

More Bush Administration Idiocy by
WalterM140
From the NYT:
It's hard to imagine what the Pentagon was thinking when it told the American
Army and Marine replacement divisions bound for Iraq earlier this year to leave
their tanks and other heavily armored vehicles behind. American military
planners seem to have ignored evidence that armed...

Busy day for MilComms Monitoring - Wed, 7 Apr 2004 by
AllanStern
Wed. 7 Apr 2004
I was able to snag comms from many Mil acft that abounded in
Florida today from Key West down south all the way to Pinecastle Range in mid
Florida.
NY-ANG F-16s continued to work local ranges; some of them departed
back to Syracuse, after a week's stay here.
Many NASA T-38s came...

kook problem by
The CO
Hi guys,
We are having a little problem with some rabid konspiracy kooks in a
private mailing list.
One of the dead horses they are flogging is the failure of ATC and NORAD
to follow
'normal' procedures in time to intercept the Sept 11 aircraft which to
them means collusion.
Some time back there...

JSF/Typhoon combination good? by

Hi All
In an almost futile effort to get some aviation related stuff back on

Both Italy and the UK are planning to use both the JSF and the
Eurofighter, AIUI the thinking behind this is that the Eurofighter
Typhoon is more AtoA and the JSF F-35 is more AtoG, having two...

best mil+aviation writers? by
Hannibal
There are several good books around . I read one a few years ago
called Viper about an F-16 pilot in the Gulf war (first one).
Another great book was IIRC "Danger" or something like that. It was a
compilation of many accounts from Approach magazine.
There was another such book made by the company...

Norway may ditch the JSF! by
John Cook
Hi All
Heres something from Reuters...
"U.S. arms giant Lockheed Martin Corp , which made the F-16s, was
accused by Norwegian politicians of failing to hand out enough
sub-contracts to Norwegian firms under a plan to develop a new
generation fighter.
