How to Make 'X-ACTO' Knives by
[email protected]
To All:
Often times we have the need to create small but accurate shapes in
metal or wood. When the 'part' happens to be in two dimensions
rather than three, such as a stencil (!) or an airfoil template, a
common method of making the part is to simply print it out then glue
the print-out to a...

Pinging Jim Morgan..... by
stol
As we chatted about a few weeks ago, I am about to start my
conditional inspection on the "beast". I think you idea of making a
short but sweet video of what I encountered during my auto engine
conversion is a good thought. I imagine taking an overall shot of the
plane, zoom in on various systems,...

Oshkosh rumor about camping by
Jim Gardiner
Reliability on this, is at best fair to unsubstantiated.....
The rumor is as follows:
Antique/classic/vintage/the guys south of the Communication Tower are not
letting any homebuilts camp in their camping area due to the fact Homebuilts
has a new camping area off the end of Papa 1.
Fact: there...

c hinds
O.K. the big day has come at last. Ready to fit the wings to the
fuselage and need to make four fittings from 4130 .125" sheet. Cut it,
jig and weld, drill, file smooth, curse, repeat as necessary.
I ordered a 9"x 9" sheet from Wicks and sure enough, it arrives the
next day.
Sheet doesn't look like...

Double Eagle + orphaned engine = a winner? by
Anthony W
After Bob Hoover's recommendation of the double eagle, I fond myself at
the DE website and thinking I've found my first (maybe only) plane.
I already have a stock 1600cc bug engine to use that is ready to put
together other than a few bits but I'd like to try Bob's suggestions and
go with the...

automotive parts on airplane engines by
Wallace Berry
Automotive alternators are sometimes installed on certified airplanes.
Are automotive (or any other type) starters ever used on a certified
engine. For instance, is there a Delco automotive equivalent to the
starter on a C85?
Thanks,
Wallace

Are 100% electric ultralights around? by

What problems can anyone forsee to building a 100% electric ultralight
aircraft for short & mid-range commuters to get back & forth to work
(aside from air traffic issues... it IS a big sky after all)? I
understand the average commute is less than 30 miles in land based
vehicles which would...

Small turbines for homebuilts? by
David Findlay
Has there been any development of small jet engines for light aircraft, like
the engines used on the Eclipse 500? Small turbines would be great for high
performance homebuilts if they were cheap enough. Anything down to the
price level that could compete with high horsepower Lycoming's...

Looking for a sub-100hp engine with long TBO time. by
tffy
This is for a hypothetical ultralight design, so just looking for
suggestions here of where to look at... hopefully a 4-stroke, purchase
price doesn't matter much, certification status doesn't matter either.
Long time before overhaul matters A LOT... so, the longer the better.
Is there anything out...

I have a vinyl cutter that will do the 12" letters called for to do N

That is 12" high, width 2/3 of height, thickness 1/6 of height etc.
Any suggestions gratefully relieved!

Driving sheet-metal screws into 4130 by
Grandpa B.
Greetings, all.
I'm restoring a Champ, and have a question about driving screws into a
drilled 4130 tube.
If I drill the proper sized hole, the screws refuse to 'take'; they simply
give up their threads to the harder metal of the tube. If I over-size the
hole, then the screw won't hold diddley...
