Possible future legal problems with "SOARING" by
Bob Thompson
I tried to post this on the RAS earlier, but haven't seen it pop up, so =
thought I'd give it a 2nd try:
A feature article in the Durango Herald newspaper (Durango, Colorado) =
this morning (9/24/04) about a very pricey 5 star resort north of town, =
Tall Timber, really caught my attention:...

The link touches upon an aspect of "digital code complexity" you-n-I
have ruefully chuckled about "for a long time now" - specifically, "How
can Joe Sixpack-User actually KNOW (what's really going on 'down in...

Delcom Air 960 wiring by
Bob Walker
Our club has a Delcom Air 960 panel mounted in a Schweizer 2-33. Currently
we are using a speaker-mike which jacks into the front of the radio. We
would like to wire the radio with a speaker and two microphones. Does anyone
know if this configuration is possible with this radio? If so, could...

U2 (U.S.!) Forwardment by
Bob Whelan
The following write-up/e-mail came to me from a fellow soaring club
member, and is verbatim below the dashed line. I've no idea of its
provenance, either, but to me it has the ring of truth about it, and it
may be of interest to fellow glider pilots.
Regards,
Bob W.

U.S. Soaring on the Small Screen (sort of...) by
Bob Whelan[_2_]
From the Dep't. of Weird Soaring Coincidences...
Wed. June, 18, 2008.
- My June issue of "Soaring" arrives in the mail...
- Alex Trebek "jeopardizes" soaring on TV.
There I wuz, performing a quick rabbit-ears channel surf before sitting

USA/SSA-Members - FYI... by
Bob Whelan[_2_]
I happened to blunder into a recent posting from the FRTF on SSA's
website, dated July 9.
Any SSA member with genuine interest in SSA owes it to him-/her-self to
read it. I mention it here by way of FYI, since no one else has yet.
If anyone who does can figure out how to use the contact form...

General Flight Experience - Just Wondering by
Bob Whelan[_3_]
A recent conversation with an experienced glider pilot/flight instructor
got me to wondering...
I know of one CFIG/FBO who - when he got into the CFIG activity years
ago - admitted to several years of 800 hours/year in rides and
instruction...in Ohio!
I know roughly how many annual hours...

USA - NTSB Final Reports Question by
Bob Whelan[_3_]
Does any reader know how someone learn in a timely manner when the NTSB
has released a final report of an accident investigation? Searching
their site hasn't revealed the answer to me. I'm interested either in
gaining visibility into their 'output queue' or alternatively simply
being able to...

Back by Popular - USA - Demand (Not!) by

Not that anyone's keeping track, but no USA gliders or glider pilots were
involved in an accident or incident in February (or January, & so far, in
March). Woo hoo! This wasn't the case the past two years.

Race of Champions by

Pardon the long post, but a Really Nifty Something happened at the recent

recently. Hollywood couldn't have written a more dramatic script, and I'm
guessing some RASidents might enjoy hearing about it. I know I sure enjoyed...

I just happened to bumble into this link...part of a video series from EAA

productive histories in the aviation field.
For RASidents who don't know of the man, George Applebay is the designer of

Contest Reporting (in "Soaring" mag) by

WARNIMG: Longish, U.S.-centric post below!!!
OK - It's winter (again, sigh) in my neck of the woods and some recent RAS
posts touching upon contests and the (over-)reporting thereof in "Soaring"
magazine, plus a kinda-sorta related post from "Soaring's" newish-editor, move
me to muse a bit,...

USA Contest Rules Suck! == :) == by

Other than having been - and remaining - thoroughly enamored with soaring (and
all its varied aspects) since bumbling into it in the early '70s, I have no
dog in the "racing vs. competition (aka US rules vs. FAI rules) tempest," but
since no one else has mentioned a few thoughts that have...

Camouflaged/Hidden Field Obstructions by

In the spirit of the season - northern hemisphere winter, I mean, of course! -
another RAS thread raised the question of how Joe Glider Pilot might go about
assessing how much more field will be necessary if his chosen field has an
obstruction along/near its downwind border. (They all do, of...

Instant, Absolutely Perfect, and Permanent Soaring Safety
