insurance by Matt Whiting
I need a renter's liability policy with $1MM total liability and $500M per seat coverage. I called AOPA and they only offer $1MM/$100M coverage. I think they still use Avemco. Anyone know of a company that offers high seat limits? My company requires this level of coverage to get into they...

Beware Super Clean by Jay Honeck
Nothing cleans fiberglass better than Castrol's Super Clean. I've been using it for some time on oil and exhaust stains, and it works great. Last week I used it to clean the bugs off the cowling, for the first time. I had been on the road with the plane for a few days, and had not stuck with my...

Cost of annual? by Hankal
What does it cost for your annual? Some shops around here now give an estimate then add for parts and extra labor. I think some shops like to make a killing. I want all the airworthy item taken care of and AD's complied with, but would pay by the hour. I have a Cessna 172 in good shape.

Issues around de-ice on a 182 by Andrew Gideon
One of the members of my club has proposed that we add TKS de-ice to our two 182s. Apparently, such a system is to become available later this year. My reaction at first was negative. After all, in our near-NYC location, the utility of such a tool is limited to a few months a year. Surely we...

Poor Guy by Bob Chilcoat
At the airport yesterday was a Cherokee 140 in front of the shop with no prop. Looked pretty nice until I got within 40 feet. What a POS! Someone had "repainted" it after masking off areas very badly. There was actually "underspray" in the strakes on the vertical stab where whoever did the...

Question on Owner Produced Interior parts by NW_PILOT
I was reading on http://150cessna.tripod.com about owner manufactured parts. I was wondering if I could make my own interior parts? For example change plastic parts to aluminum, or titanium such as the plastic instrument bezels, mike holder ECT. I have access to a really nice machine shop, CNC...

Logging local flights. by Rich
I am curious about how people choose to log local flights where you might fly over another airport or city, but not land there. For example, on a nice day I might make an hour or hour and a half "grand tour" over several nearby cities, just for the pleasure of looking at the changing countryside,...

Tool query... by Tina Marie
While helping out with a pre-buy last spring, I saw a tool I have to have. It was a hollow steel tube, with a t-handle and air hose fitting on top, and a spark-plug-thread on the bottom. You screwed it in to the cylinder using the t-handle, and hooked the compression tester to the air fitting on...

Mode S to become requirement? by Bob Chilcoat
There has been talk of making Mode S a requirement sometime in the future. Our transponder is giving trouble again. Does it make any sense to consider putting in a Mode S transponder now, if we have to replace ours? We can get a yellow-tagged Mode C transponder or even a new exchange from...
