Lonely up there? by paul kgyy
It appeared to be a long time since last hearing from ATC on a recent flight, and sure enough, "27D can you still hear us?". I still could, and they transferred me to a local approach control. Anybody ever just call them up to see if they forgot about you? I did that once over Toledo.

Saftey Pilot by Richard Ross
If an instrument rated saftey pilot files an IFR flight plan on a VMC day, can the student inst. pilot legally log simulated instrument time while under the hood? The liability of the flight will rest entirely with the instrument rated saftey pilot. However, for the purpose of logging simulated...

GPS Question by rps
I thought I understood this, but maybe not. GPS systems were certified for approaches after I got my instrument ticket, so my knowledge is more anecdotal than from actual training. Can an approach-certified GPS be used to substitute for NDB and DME during an approach (or even en route)? What if...

FSDO enforcement- GPS before effective date - which date to put in Aircraft Log for Part 43? by Ron A.
Everyone seems to agree that that FAR 43 requires a maintenance log entry when updating the database. And everyone agrees that it is silly. What date do you put down for the maintenance ( I know the obvious answer - the date you did it)? If I update multiple planes this weekend with the database...

Fast forward to the futu WAAS 200 minimums by scott moore
Now that the WAAS minimums are going to be 200, same as ILS, and the first WAAS approaches are going to be overlaid over standard ILS approaches, the question arises: Which approach makes more sense to an ILS runway, use of the ILS, or the WAAS? Before you say "good ole ILS", consider: WAAS is...
