VFR to IFR Cost for KLN 89B by
Skip Guimond
I recently purchased an aircraft with a KLN 89B installed with VFR
restrictions. Can anyone give me a "guesstimate" on the cost of
adding the necessary equipment and labor to have the unit certified
for IFR flight?
Thanks--
Skip Guimond

VFR Practise Approaches by

If an approach says DME required but I dont have DME, can I still execute a VFR practise approach?
On GPS (RNAV) approaches, can I deviate from the published procedures with permission from the Tower or controlling agency if I am doing a VFR practise approach? I.E. Altitude deviation for a...

VFR on top question by
A Lieberman
Scenario 1....
Severe clear weather from point A to point B going east. MRA is 7000 in
which part of this area is below ATC radar coverage from past experience.
Highest OROCA enroute is 2600, filing is direct from airport to airport.
If I filed "VFR on top" /G for 3500, would I be legal to...

VFR on top by
MC
Australia is changing/rearranging its' airspace model to more closely
line-up with ICAO and also to be a _very_ close copy of the current
USA system.
Basically there will be a heck of a lot of class-E. (usually bottomed
at FL180, but in some areas down to A085).
Our radar coverage won't change...

vfr on top by

What are the advantages of vfr-on-top in the real world? I understand the
ifr to vfr-on-top then cancel, but what about other uses?

VFR on top by
Nick Kliewer
In my understanding, the pilot is responsible for VFR separation from clouds
while operating "VFR on top." To what extent (and what would be the best way
to go about) to deviate heading to avoid clouds?

I file 172/U

VFR Climb gradient by
Sparse
Does anyone know of a VFR climb gradient. The only possible thing I can
come up with is what Part 25 says an aircraft must be able to meet
concerning the takeoff path. From the start of takeoff to 1500 feet or
when transition from takeoff to enroute configuration is complete. an
aircraft must be...

Very long XC Story by
SFM
I decide to take the plane and really go on a long XC flight, well beyond
the definitions in the FARs, with my wife for a little R&R. This would be my
longest flight to date and even surpassed what I did for my commercial long
XC a couple of months ago.
The totals we

Very localized low by

I think I flew through a very localized low pressure area,
perhaps six or eight miles in diameter and two tenths of an inch
of mercury deep.
Last Thursday flying South past Kansas City, about 1615Z, IMC,
6000 feet, Kansas City baro 30.14 on autopilot (KFC200), altitude
hold. I was vectoring East...

Vectors over water by
paul kgyy
Flying IFR in/around the Chicago Class B, it's not unusual to get
vectored out over Lake Michigan. I've always been a little nervous
about this but even more so after the recent PA28 downing off
Milwaukee. Flotation gear is no solution for probably 6 months of the
year because of water...

Vectored past the localizer by
Doug
Several times, while under IFR flight plan and radar services, I have
been vectored to intercept the localizer and the controller was late
in turning me into the localizer. This usually happens when I need
about a 90 degree turn to the localizer. I have decided not to wait
for his vector and just...

Vector altitude for ILS below GS intercept altitude? by
M
Is it common for the approach controller to vector for an ILS at an
altitude below the GS intercept altitude on the IAP? Today is the
third time in the last year or so that Victoria terminal vectored me
for the ILS into BLI at 2000 feet, instead of 2100. I'm very familiar
with the area and I did...

Vague DP by
Roy Smith
The DP out of LGA reads:
"DEPARTURE PROCEDU Rwy 4, climb to 600 before proceeding westbound.
Rwy 13, climb to 800 before proceeding westbound. Rwy 22, climb to 1400
before proceeding westbound. Rwy 31, climb to 1200 before proceeding
southbound."
It seems kind of vague to me. Is it implied...
