What do you do about maintenance? by
Andrew Gideon
Picture an airport where MX services are limited. Perhaps because there's
no real shop at the airport, but maybe just a couple of independents that
work out of their hanger. Or perhaps there are shops but they're
"imperfect" (ie. unwilling to work on anything that's not scheduled two or
more weeks...

What determines sale location? (sales/use taxes) by
Douglas Paterson
I'm sure the experienced buyers & sellers around here have run into this
before....
One prospective plane I'm looking at is for sale in Connecticut (currently
based there). The current ownership is in a Delaware LLC (of a sole
proprietor, who is flying/basing the plane out of CT). Connecticut...

What constitutes a POH? New owner needs advice. (long) by
RH
Hi everyone!
L O N G time lurker, infrequent poster here. I have a question about
what must legally be carried in the airplane for the pilot operating
handbook.
But first, let me share with you a little bit of my experience buying
an airplane...You may remember a few months ago I was looking at...

What constitutes "logs"? 1st. time buyer. by
Paul
I am investigating the purchase of an a/c. The "logs" are looseleaf
sheets in a binder. When people speak of a log I envision a journal
with sequentially numbered pages. Entries are made in the pages and
there is backup substantiation in the form of invoices, yellow tags,
etc. Should I be...

What Bugs You The Most? by
Charles Talleyrand
Of course everyone thinks their plane is wonderful, but every plane has at least
one annoying 'feature'. I don't want to hear about cabin width or cruise speed,
but that minor gremlin you would fix if money was free and time replaceable.
In my plane, the overflow vent vents too much and full...

What are your thoughts on..... by
Ben
Hello,
As a senior in high school, i was able to get my private pilot's
license on dec 31, 2003. i love flying(what pilot doesn't, right?)
but i'm looking for a cheaper way to build hours then renting. i was
just playing with an idea, and i wanted your responses. Would an
airplane owner ever...

What an annual.... by
The Visitor
this has got to be it. Both props off for overhaul, it's time, now I am
looking at two new props with deice boots, 15k times two. can get some
new blades and use the old hubs but I am thinking it's best just to be
rid of them. I thought this annual would hurt when I got three new gear...

What airplane would fill this mission? by
John B
Hello all,
I'm looking for an airplane to purchase or build, but I can't find one
that meets all of my needs/wants (yes, I know, all airplanes are a
bucket of compromises). So, I'm asking all of you out there for
advice on any airplanes that would fit this profile.
Important to Haves:
- could be...

What about Brand "X"? by
Tom S.
There's (understandably) a lot of discussion about Piper vs. Cessna vs.
Mooney...
I'm considering a (Rockwell) Commander 114B. Their marketing hype makes it
seem that the Commanders have a much better safety record than their
competition. Anyone have any input on that?
How about maintenance...

what a trip...what a plane! (long) by
The Weiss Family
I just got back last night from picking up my first plane.
It's a Beech Super III, A23-24.
I think planes are like kids: mine is better looking, smarter, etc...
Anyone else feel that way ;-)
I flew down to Dallas from Minden, NV on Friday.
On Friday evening when I got there, the weather was nice,...

What 2 seat, twin engine GA plane??? by
Charles Talleyrand
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association says that on the US
registry the average age of a twin engine piston power plane with
fewer than 4 seats is 32 years, and that this is not increasing.
My question is ... WHERE ARE THESE PLANES? I've never seen twin
piston engine plane with fewer than...

Wet Wing Fuel Tank Seep by
Jon Woellhaf
My Cessna 182Q -- wet wing tanks, no bladders -- has developed a fuel seep
from the left tank. Can anyone here recommend a good repair shop within a
few hours of Denver, Colorado?
Thanks!

Wet vs Dry Vacuum Pump by
Fastglasair
I am curious of opinions out there. I currently have a wet Vacuum pump on my
Glasair I-RG. I am considering adding an M-20 vacuum pump oil separator just
for the vacuum pump since I also have a Christen inverted oil system separator
which takes care of the Crankcase breather. I am also considering...

Wet vac pump question by
JFLEISC
In my continuing effort to plug all the oil leaks in my Continental 0-300 I
have a final question about wet vacuum pumps. How much oil out the vent is too
much? This is a '61 C-172 with the factory standard oil recovery system off the
wet vac. About twice as much oil comes out the vacuum vent as...

Wet Signature on W&B? by
Jim Weir
Got asked a question that I can't find the answer to.
Say I take a feller's logbooks home during the annual and after a few hours of
grunt and scream I come up with what I think is the current equipment list and a
defensible weight and balance. I sign off the w&b in the logbook and give...

Wet Vacuum Pump by
smackey
Well, my dry vacuum pump is getting a little long in the tooth (I've
owned my plane for over 500 hrs now, and still have the vac that was
in it when I bought it). I bought the plane used in 1999- a 1978
C172/180hp. The lit suggests that I'm living on borrowed time for a
dry vac after about 500...

well, that was interesting by
Bob Noel
Today I went over to the plane to put the new tailcone in the plane (awaiting
installation), and see the strange wire dangling from the tail. Turns out that
the ADF wire had broken. I'm guessing that the plane cover and gusty winds
finally wore out the wire.
And, no, I'm not ready to drop...
