Radiotelephone permit for Canada by PaulH
The AOPA Canada briefing summary says a Radiotelephone Operator's permit is required for flight into Canada. I did some checking at the FCC website and it appears that the cost for this piece of paper is $100. Or am I looking at the wrong piece of paper. Flying is admittedly expensive, but this...

New 172S by Rob Thomas
Does anyone have any recent experience with purchasing a new 172S? I'd like to know if there's any room for negotiation on the price of the aircraft from the list price. Considering that Cessna has decreased production, I'm beginning to think they will force a demand in the marketplace. I...

Yellow tags by Mike Z.
I am still filtering out all the usual paperwork that comes with a previously loved airplane. You know, the usual receipts for 12 new batteries dating back to WWII etc. Anyway, there are lots of yellow tags stapled in the logs and almost as many in various envelopes. I was scanning the logs onto...

Hi, Planning to put a GPSmap 196 for backup in my Cessna 172 I would like to know whether somebody has mounted a 196 on the 172 yoke? May I learn about the mounting used - original Garmin or OEM hardware like RAM? Any drawbacks or pros experienced with either gear? Otto Braasch (EDML)

Q:VXA-210 Handheld by Frank Ivo Streckebein
Hello to the group ! Does anybody use the VertexStandard Pilot VXA-210? My question: The manual says that the led on top of the unit will glow green if it is receiving a carrier and the color will change to red when transmitting. With my handheld the led is only glowing green when receiving; the...

Cessna 172 with Wild Fuel Gauge Needle by jls
Anybody know the reason for this? The needle on the pilot's side is stable, but the needle on the co-pilot side swings wildly, especially when the tank is full. A float moves the needle around the dial. Why doesn't it stay still and be good like its brother?

Sales tax due from seller? by Nathan Young
Hello. I live in Illinois. I am in the process of selling my Cherokee 180. Does anyone know if there are sales tax implications for the seller? Does it matter if I sell the plane in-state, out-of-state, or to a corporation? When I purchased, I bought the plane from an individual who lived...

Found Loose Cylinder Bolt by Greg Hopp
On preflight I noticed a little oil seeping around the bolt on the pilot's front cylinder (Superior Milleniums). This is on a '67 C150 w/ the Continental O200. I grabbed the bolt and turned it @ 2 1/2 times until it was finger tight against the cylinder. Partner and I have grounded the plane. ...

Lack of power in Cessna 172-R by Chuck
Hi, all, Could someone please provide some suggestions on this. Last summer we bought a 1997 160 HP Cessna 172-R. The test flight (with 3 adults) went just fine. When I picked the plane up from the shop after the service (required to fix certain things that needed it , the performance was very...

My club has started thinking about putting Mode-S transponders in our aircraft (3 Archers, 2 Arrows, 2 Bonanzas), to take advantage of traffic advisory information. Does anybody here have Mode-S in their plane now? Do you make use of the traffic info? How well does it work? How easy is it to...
