Old ADF and XPNDR parts by Ben Smith
Most of my panel is newer King stuff, except for the ARC ADF and Cessna 300 transponder. The ADF and XPNDR kind of 'stand out' because they have the yellowish colored faceplates. So I thought it would be nice to find the black colored faceplates for both, so they match the other radios. I've...

Garmin 340 - IPod player by Michael 182
I have a Garmin 340 that I'd like to play my IPod through. Is it simple to pull the the audio panel and hook up a plug that will allow my IPod to plug into the Music 1 channel? Am I allowed to do this or does an A&P, or Avionics shop have to be involved? Any help appreciated. Michael

The Dan Rather Angle by Dude
1. Noticed on Avweb that Dan Rather (the head of CBS News) owns property near an airpark in Austin, TX. 2. Over the years Austin land owners have managed to shut down almost all the GA airports in the area through political wrangling. 3. Story on CBS was not about an airport, but an...

STec-30 doesn't pass startup test after I shorted something.... by Dave
Okay, I screwed up. I was relocating the 3 panel switches for my STEC 30. The main power on/off, the nav 1/nav 2 and the alt. hold push button. When I relocated them and powered up, the self test succeeded and I heard the servos testing themselves. But then one of the insulators covering a lead...

2 Attachment(s) Uh-oh: CBS News to air anti-GA hit piece on Wed. 1/14 by Maule Driver
I saw it too. I'm hoping that it is a more level headed report than the teasing trailer suggests. Oh, maybe I'll just not watch. "David H" wrote in message ... I just saw a "teaser" piece during the CBS Evening News promoting their ...

Another cool RV added to the Rogue's Gallery! by Jay Honeck
Another cool RV-4 has been added to the Rec.Aviation Rogue's Gallery! See Jim Fleischman's fabulous paint job at http://www.alexisparkinn.com/rec_aviation.htm (You've got to navigate your way to the "F's" to see it...) He's even got working "bomb shackles" on the wings, for dropping flour...

Arrow Refurbish cost by PaulH
What's an expected cost to soundproof, new carpet, rebuild seats with leather? Headliner and side panels are fine. I don't have the time or expertise to do any of this myself.

Editorial Page by John Purner
Finally! I've wanted to add an Editorial page to The $100 Hamburger website since we started it in 1996. After eight years four books and several reprinting of "The $100 Hamburger" book, I've found the time to do it. In additon to our views, there is a Letters to the Editor section. I truly hope...

Piper Autocontrol IIIB by PaulaJay1
Flew to dinner today with an outside temp of 10F. Auto pilot worked OK on the trip out (plane came out of a 45F hanger). Parked for dinner for about 2 hours. The autopilot didn't work on the way back. You could feel the clutch take hold but no corrective action to follow the bug. Simple roll...

About time -- Comanche 250 by Tony
Well we finally went and paid for our new bird. A 1964 Comanche 250. After months of deciding to buy it or get a small plane. We went down as they were doing the annual on it. All turned out good. All compression 72/80 with only 10 hours on the plane in the last year. Our first projects a Paint,...

Vaccuum Pressure Gauge by Al
Now that its cold again, my vacuum pressure gauge is acting up (again). In the past, when it was cold, it would take a few minutes to come up to the correct reading. Now, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to come up. All dials are OK, and when the gauge comes up, it reads in the normal range. Any...

Bonanza "Landing Gear Safety System" by Roy Smith
My club recently bought an S35 Bonanza with the optional "Landing Gear Safety System" installed. I've got the POH supplement that describes its operation, but nobody seems to know much about how it works. The gist is that when the airspeed and MP go below certain limits, it automatically extends...

Battery and Vacuum pump by PaulaJay1
My battery is 3.5 years old and the vacuum pump is going on 350 hours. Both are doing OK as best I can tell. What is the collective opinion reguarding replacement of each of these? The factory recomended replacement time for the vacuum pump (Aero Accessories AA-215CC) is 1200 hours but the old...
