GPS PRN NOTAM by
Ali Ghorashi
Hello All,
What does the following NOTAM mean:
GPS 02/001 GPS PRN 26 OTS WEF 0502082100-0502090900
I know it says "GPS Pseudo Random Noise 26 Out of Service" but what are its
implications? Does it mean that RAIM is not available during the outage?
Thanks,

GPS Question by
rps
I thought I understood this, but maybe not. GPS systems were certified
for approaches after I got my instrument ticket, so my knowledge is
more anecdotal than from actual training.
Can an approach-certified GPS be used to substitute for NDB and DME
during an approach (or even en route)? What if...

GPS SUbstitute for DME or ADF by
S. Ramirez
Someone in another forum said that it's okay to substitute certified GPS for
DME or ADF on an approach plate that depicts FAFs or intersecting points
using DME or ADF. I asked that person to back it up with a reference from
an official document like the FARs, AIM or something that the FAA puts...

GPS Techniques by
Kobra
Flyers,
I am parting with my the new Sporty's Air Facts DVD - GPS Techniques on
eBay. Here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/3c6rpv
It up for $5.00.
I just bought it and enjoyed watching it and it indeed had some useful info.
It discusses the 530, 430 and talks about the 396. It has two Air...

GPS UPSAT/Garmin/Jeppesen subscribers by

Just found out that the 2MB card we've all been using to update our GX
55, 60's etc will *not* work for the next data update. Jepp (to its
credit) will *give* you a new 4mb card in return for your old one, but
*act fast* since they are overwhelmed with requests and the deadline is
fast approaching.

GPS Use In Canada by
rps
Can IFR-certified GPS be used to substitute for NDBs in Canada when
navigating an airway?
I'm a US-certificated pilot flying a US-registered plane. I'd like to
take advantage of lower MEAs in western Canada provided by airways.
Many of the airways appear to be between NDBs. If my ADF is known...

GPS vs ADF by
Mortimer Schnerd, RN
I actually posted this in another aviation newsgroup in which I actively post
all the time but didn't get a reply... I assume because of the crash in
Manhattan got everybody's attention. That being said, I'm still hoping for some
insight from the more recently trained.

GPS WEIRDNESS by
Flew my 172M today and experienced some truly bizarre GPS behavior.
On preflight my portable GPS (Garmin 296), with external antenna and
aircraft power securely attached, initialized just fine, acquired
several satellites and went right into NAV mode. After runup and right
before takeoff, it...

Gps with voice, "talking" GPS by
gyrobob
Does there exist a handheld GPS that talks?
A very nice lady here at work wants to give her hubby a gift for his
retirement, and she knows he likes GPSs, and she knows he likes the
voice feature. So far I have not found one for her that talks. The
only GPSs I know of that talk are permanently...

GPS-Y GPS-Z database question by
John Clonts
KIWS (West Houston) has a GPS (RNAV) Y RWY 33 as well as a GPS(RNAV) Z RWY
33. My KLN-94 only shows one of them. Is there a way to tell which one it
is, without just a "mechanical" inspection of all the waypoints, bearings,
etc? Is this a limitation of the KLN-94, or a limitation of the...

GPS/WAAS VNAV approaches and runway length by
Nathan Young
The Garmin 480 now supports LPV approaches which are ILS like
approaches using WAAS-GPS for both LNAV and VNAV.
My question. I'm assuming the LPV approach would target 1000ft down
the runway as the TDZ (just like an ILS). Does this mean that LPV
approaches will not be added to the airports with...

GPT (Gulfport MS) ILS 14 question by
A Lieberman
About to take a trip down to Gulfport MS (GPT) tomorrow morning.
Ceilings are forecasted to be 300 broken, so I really doubt that I will be
mucking around with full procedure approaches in the clag, but while I was
studying the approaches into GPT, I am kinda figuring on expecting vectors
for the...

Ok, it's coming up to that season, and was vividly demonstrated when I got

For those who managed to escape all notice that the paper FAA

the last two years: your paper flying license is now kindling,
as from midnight last night!
