When to descend II by
Dan Luke[_2_]
You're 4 miles SW of ROYCE.

Approach says "Cessna '1GS,cross ROYCE at or above 2 thousand, cleared visual

Where are VASIs located on a field ? by
[email protected]
Where are VASIs located on a field that doesn't have an ILS ? Is it a certain number of feet from end of runway ? Does it depend on runway length ? If you want to land on a short runway when is it safe to dip below VASI ? Must there be a certain number of hundreds of feet from the threshold...

Where is approach good about multiple approaches and clearances in the air? by
Andrew Gideon
I'm no freight dog or corporate pilot with dozens of approaches to minimums
each day. For me, as with many GA pilots I expect, maintaining *real*
currency involves explicit practice.
That's fine; I enjoy it. But I'd like to try some new places.
The issue is that I'd like to try some new places...

Where is MEPTE by
Jose
How can I find out where the FAA thinks MEPTE is? On the NOS IFR charts
it's charted as in the water (or over it), but when I fly it, it's over
land. I know the NOS charts are not all that accurate (for topography)
but I'd like to know where it is, for a certification flight for our GPS.
Any...

Where is the FAF on the GPS 23 approach to KUCP? by
Richard Kaplan
I cannot find a charted final approach fix on the GPS 23 approach to KUCP
(New Castle, PA):
http://download.aopa.org/iap/20040219/NE4/ucp_ndb_or_gps_rwy_23.pdf
The Garmin 530 and UPSAT GX50 both consider Bryne intersection to be the
FAF, but there is no Maltese cross.
Any ideas? Can an approach...

Wherewhendid dual speed on ias come from by
Gene Whitt
Steven P. McNicoll
Steven gave a wonderful presentation as to the conflict of statute
and nautical miles to be used in the U.S. during the 1950s to 70s. What he
failed to give us who the genius was to come up with both sets of numbers on
our airspeed indicators.
The main push for a KNOT measure...

Which Flight School at KCDW ? by
Roberto Waltman
Hello,
After +2 years without flying I'm planning to get back to the air.
With a rusty SEL rating, I'm looking for a flight school for two
different goals:
(a) A few lessons for currency and a BFR right now, and
(b) Lessons towards an instrument's rating latter on.
Trying to decide where. Options...

Which GPS Support LNAV/VNAV? by
C Kingsbury
As I understand the new RNAV approaches support three types of approach:
Lateral-only navigation (Basically the traditional GPS approach?)
LNAV/VNAV
LPV
Now, IIRC, only the LPV approaches *require* WAAS, while the LNAV/VNAV
approaches support use of barometrically-derived *or* WAAS VNAV guidance....

Which GPS w/laptop moving map? by
FlyBean
Hello!
The new version 3.0 of Seattle Avionics's Voyager just came out, and
it has a nice moving map. I want to start using it on my laptop, but
need to buy a GPS, first. SA recommends the Pharos GPS360, but I
always thought the Garmin GPS 10 may be the better option. Does
anyone have...

Which Indicator for KLN-89b by
N7936T
I bought a kln 89b.
I have a MK12d driving a ID-824, a KX-170 driving a KI-214, and a
yellow taged Arc IN-385a sitting on the self.
I have a NAT multi pole relay, annunicator lights and switches.
First choice would be to share the ID-824 between the MK12d and the
89b?
If none of these will work,...

Which of these approaches is loggable? by
Paul Tomblin
1. Vectored for the VOR 27 at Oshkosh in pouring rain, broke out and saw
the runway after I got established but before I started my descent,
cancelled IFR to help the guy behind me, did a visual descent and landed
on the green dot.
2. Vectored for the ILS 24(?) at Muskegeon, descended on the glide...

Which PC Flightplanning Software EFB Would You Recommend? by
FlyBean
Hello!
I will be getting a tablet PC (thinking about the Motion Computing
LE800), and will be buying a flightplanning software package for IFR
soon. I've been looking around at all the different options (Seattle
Avionics Voyager/GlassView), RMS FlightsoftPro/Vista, FlightPrep,
EverywhereMap, etc....

While we're talking about Garmin GPS by
Windecks
On an IFR proficiency flight with my partner the other day, we got into a
little debate about the best way to use the Garmin 430 for ATC position
reporting. He uses the cursor on the map page to point at an airport or
NAVAID, then reads out the distance and (reciprocal) bearing. I go to NRST,
and...

Whistle for your frequency? by
-b-
Thumbing through a 1962 FLYING magazine, I came across an advertisement
for the all-new Motorola M-400 NAV/COM. Among other quaint features,
such as the 100KHz spacing, later upgradeable to 50KHz, and the COM
transmit frequency that automatically switches to 122.1 any time you
select a NAV...

who does VOR "calibration" for most accurate VOR approaches? by
Greg
Hi,
I recently learned that VOR can be "calibrated" or adjusted to take
into account any error discovered at the 30-day check. For example, if
you need to set OBS at 44 to get centered CDI on the 42 radial from VOR
on airport checkpoint, and 219 to center CDI on the 222 radial, then
you record the...

who moved SAV, forgot to tell Jepp? by
Dave Butler
As I was preparing for an angel flight to Savannah last week, I compared my out
of date approach charts with the online versions and noticed that all the
approaches using the SAV VOR had changed, and what's more, the VOR itself had
moved about 5 miles west. No problem, just print new charts from...
