Some questions about DG600 by
[email protected]
I have logged many hundreds of hours in a 600M, and I can say my impression and opinions sometimes differ greatly from the ones by other friends with comparable time in the type.
I love the 600 for its very fast roll rate, the ease of building up speed, the excellent glide even at high speeds,...

Practical Wave Flying - Revised Edition by
son_of_flubber
I'm reading 'Practical Wave Flying - Revised Edition' by Mark Palmer Copyright 1989 That's 26 years old.
Is there anything considered out-of-date or outright wrong in this book? Are there new areas of relevant knowledge that are not touched upon by this book?
This is supplemental reading. ...

SN10 feature feedback - external moving map, etc? by
Dave Nadler
SN10 pilots - I'm fooling with external moving map support.
The idea is to give a nice map, with final-glide range and
task, echoing the SN10 setup (and winds, polar, etc).
Reduces page-flipping on SN10.
For example: Kobo display of SN10 task info (using XCsoar
or TopHat).

Weight & Bal Calc ASK-21 by
roccos
Anyone have a simple wt. & bal calc method for ASK-21? The manual is all in German and makes no sense. Power-plane manuals are simple to use with a graph.

Dummy load antenna for radio testing by
[email protected]
I want to do some bench testing on a new to me radio before installing into my panel. If the radio stays in receive mode only do I still need an antenna or dummy load on the antenna input? Can anyone recommend an appropriate dummy device that can be used on an aircraft radio or a circuit that can...

second PowerFlarm antenna by
Andrzej Kobus
Can anyone tell me, how big of an impact antenna-receiver mismatch has? What if I use a European antenna in an US PowerFlarm (868 Mhz vs. required 916 Mhz).
Thank you in advance, Andrzej

Why aren't bars more common at US soaring sites? by
JS
Dan's post below regarding auto tows opens the door for another cool-weather wind-up.
Clubs about everywhere else are well stocked with beer and wine.
In Moriarty, there's a brewery not far off the airport.
In Tehachapi the brewery is closer to the municipal airport.
But what about on-site?

Alternative magnetic compass by
[email protected]
A sailplane's Flight Manual usually requires a magnetic compass (or an aviation compass)as minimum equipment. Well, panel space has become less available and you are seeing fewer sailplanes with panel or glare-shield mounted 2.25 Airpath C2xxx or PAI-700 aircraft specific compasses.
Anyone have a...

Bungee launching - why isn't it more popular - especially in the US Midwest? by
kirk.stant
In the spirit of lively RAS discussions, I submit that the US gliding community needs to switch to hillside bungee launching - the benefits would be immense!
1. Launches would be essentially free (except for some sweat equity - but most US glider pilots could use the exercise...)
2. Good for the...

Downloading Xcsoar maps onto Dell Streak 5? by
pjschae
I am new to Android and XCsoar. I have XCsoar loaded on the Streak and I have tried to download a map from the XCsoar site but I get the error: "Cannot Download. The content is not supported on this phone." I tried the standard map and the Altair but no luck with either. What am I missing here?

FYI to USA clubs and FBOs. by
[email protected]
A new company is out now called Rush Cube. They are also located in Kennesaw, GA and seem to have a similar business model to what 800Skyride use to have. I suspect the same guys with just a new company name. I have already heard a complaint from an FBO about them sending a customer to redeem their...

Advertising for tow pilots by

like many clubs, we have troubles finding enough tow pilots. We have a Pawnee tow plane so we need to find the ever fewer pilots that are tailwheel qualified, and meet the insurance minimums. The other big issue is finding the candidate pilots that are qualified and interested in spending their...
