OLC index in CN? by [email protected]
Is there an option to input OLC glider index in the CN? I found a ~10% difference between what the CN was calculating and what my actual score ended up being on OLC. I scanned the manual and I'm not next to my CN at the moment. Thanks.

Questions about ram air emergency parachutes by JS
(Moved from the parachute comfort thread) Uli asked: Not wanting to derail this thread any further (if that is even possible) but realistically, how difficult is it to use a ram-air chute vs. a round canopy? I have only three static line jumps under a military style Pioneer L-10 and the landings...

Installing 2 Varios / TE question by [email protected]
I'm in the process of getting an AC4 Russia back in the air after it has not flown in 9 years. During this project, I am having to update the panel and replace some instruments. The end game is to have both the original Winter mechanical vario and a new LXNav S-80 in the panel. I know that I...

Softie by Ross[_3_]
I have a Softie Mini that has just turned 20. My packer says he will not pack it again because the manufacturer says he can't. Nothing to do with the quality of the chute. He was however nice enough to open the chute, and leave it that way. Is there anyone out there that would like it? Make a...

First soaring flight to exceed 1,000 kilometers by Burt Compton - Marfa Gliders, west Texas
July 31, 1964. On this date in soaring history, Al Parker makes the first soaring flight to exceed 1,000 kilometers. Today is the 50th anniversary of Alvin H. Parker's remarkable 1,042 kilometer (647 mile) world record flight in 1964, the first-ever in the world to break the 1,000 kilometer...

Flarm Range Analysis by Dan Marotta
As a relatively new user of Flarm, I'm asking opinions of the results I'm getting. Mine is a Power Flarm portable mounted to the glare shield of my Stemme and has both Flarm A and B antennae and an ADS-B antenna. Here's a link to my analysis on a flight yesterday with plenty of Flarm targets:...

Cordele...hello? by [email protected]
So its 9:00 PM on Day 2 of the Standard, 15M, and Open Nationals at Cordele and the outside world doesn't even know if contestants even gridded, launched, or scored. Nothing on SSA site, nothing on Fly Cordele-Soaring Contests Facebook, and nothing on Glide Port. Disappointing. US competition...

Glider and vehicle request for 18m Nationals - Uvalde by JS
As last year at Nephi, Bruce Taylor will be flying my ASG29 at Uvalde. But our friend and Uvalde 1991 15M World Champ Brad Edwards is looking for a glider. Brad is willing to reciprocate with a glider in Australia, most likely a JS1C. The most convenient place to fly it would be at our club, Lake...

most comfortable parachute ? by S9
Hey all, I've been flying with a Security 150 for quite a while. It is most comfortable. I tried a Security 350 and it is most uncomfortable. It's time to replace the 150. What chute do you suggest that is very comfortable for those 5+ hour flights? Thanks Steve

**^%$^*)(^%$$E - OLC Again! by Dan Marotta
Once again I can't log on. Except some times I can. Then when I try to post a flight I'm logged off. Try to lodge a complaint and there are only a few canned complaints allowed, none of which address the problem. Yesterday, due to GPS dropouts, I posted an incomplete flight. Today I was able...

Gone West... Bill Seed by Steve Leonard[_2_]
The soaring community lost a colorful character on June 3, 2017, when Bill Seed passed away at his beloved Sunflower Aerodrome and Gliderport near Hutchinson, Kansas. He was 73 years old. Bill was known to many in the soaring community for various things, but he was known most to me for three...

Gap seals effectiveness study? by Bret Hess
Hi, we see lots of mylar gap seals and read lots of discussion of them. Does anyone know of an engineering study that quantifies their effect on sailplane wings or other wings? Nothing pops up quickly in Google. I'm wondering how much science there is to this practice. I'm hoping for more than...
