Clubs in Netherlands. by
Janusz Kesik
Hello,
In the second half of April I'll be most probably travelling to Netherlands,
to the Oss near Nijmegen. Is there any club close to this location? Just to
jump in and watch their operations for a while as flying as a passenger
there could be too expensive for me (well, had no time to refresh...

Winter Mech Vario Bezel by
Mike Hostage
I want to mount a Winter mechanical vario in my glider.
It has a bezel ring around the face that is wider
than the standard 3 1/8' diameter of the face. Anyone
have a clue as to how to remove the bezel, so the instrument
can be mounted to the panel? I don't see any obvious
keys/slots/or breaks in...

SOARING IN NEW ZEALAND by
[email protected]
Will be in NZ in November for a couple of weeks, and would like to fly
there for a few days. Questions 1) Besides my logbook and US-issued
pilot certificate, what else do I need there to be able to rent a
sailplane; 2) WHERE ELSE besides Omarama can one find decent flying
conditions. This would...

Lx 1600 vs Borgelt 50 by
Glen Kelley
Would anyone with experience flying with both of these varios please provide
comments on their views of the two devices? Audio, ease of adjustment,
accuracy, etc?
I've been to the various websites, so don't need any more specs, thanks.

T.E. Static hose by
[email protected]
I've got a red line (hose) under my panel and according to the diagram
in the maintenance manual for this glider this is the T.E. static.
I've got a L-NAV and a Borgelt B-40, where might I want to connect this
line to?

Euro vs Contrafund, or how to buy a glider (affordably) by
[email protected]
On Nov. 15, 2004 I posted a message suggesting that you invest your
money in a mutual fund with an excellent track record (i.e. Fidelity
Contrafund) and wait until your $70K initial investment grows to match
the current price of the glider. Here is an update on that strategy:
Euro: $1.2944...

Glider - Towplane Signals by
Mike the Strike
Training manuals and,in the USA, the FAA test, require knowledge of all
the in-air signals between a glider and towplane. In all my 25-years
of aerotows, I've only had four go bad (less than 1%). In one, the
towplane engine quit just after liftoff, but early enough to enable us
both to land on...

Laptop GPS/map software by
[email protected]
Last year at the Hobbs Region 9 contest the CM used a PC program for
providing driving directions to crews based on GPS coordinates reported
by wayward pilots. Can someone tell me what software that was?
I need to get something like that for me and crew to use (PC based),
with the additional...

Finish Gate Accident no. 2 by
Justin Craig
As a pilot who practices high speed low finishes, I
think that attention needs to be drawn to the fact
that 85knots is simply not fast enough when finishing
at 50 ft. At that speed, the height gained from a pull
is not going to be enough to complete a safe circuit.
I would agree that this low...

RUC Mixed Boundary forecast by
m pautz
Back in July of last year, a guy named Johnathan posted the site for
getting a graphic of the Mixed Boundary Layer forecast from NOAA.
My computer crashed and I lost my links. Does anyone have information
on accessing that particular web site?
Thanks

How are joysticks 'powered' in gliders? by
[email protected]
I note that some gliders are controlle with a joystick which
makes me curious as to how the control surfaces are powered.
Assuming these are useable by people who lack the forearms of
a truck driver, how are they powered?
Do these systems use electric servos with a battery recharged
on the...
