Bombbardier V220 vs Lycoming/Continental by
Charles Talleyrand
Bombardier describes the V-220 as the "best power to weight ratio
in their class". Their web site lists the weight at 190 kg/419 pounds (see
http://www.vaircraftengine.com/en/technicalData_v-220.asp). I believe
but am not sure that weight includes all accessories.
What does a comparable engine...

Garmin 430 and Comm Strength - Solved! by
Marco Leon
There have been various posts going back a ways on the comm "strength" of
the GNS430 versus other radios. I've "solved" my particular problem by
adjusting the mic gain on the unit itself. I've had various "complaints"
about my carrier strength over the years with various ATC facilities so I
was...

Defintion of Aircraft by
Charles Talleyrand
Hovercraft and surface-effect craft are not regulated by the FAA. How
high must one fly before one falls under the pervue of the FAA? Is
there an official definition of "aircraft" that excludes hovercraft and
surface effect vehilcles?
-Thanks

Heater problem fixed! by
Jim Burns
After troubleshooting the Janitrol heater in our Aztec for the past 3 weeks,
we've finally got it fixed. The problem ended up being a combination of a
bad ignitor (spark plug) and a coked fuel nozzle. One problem no doubt
causing the other problem.
After a new spark plug didn't solve our...

Wet vs Dry Vacuum Pump by
Fastglasair
I am curious of opinions out there. I currently have a wet Vacuum pump on my
Glasair I-RG. I am considering adding an M-20 vacuum pump oil separator just
for the vacuum pump since I also have a Christen inverted oil system separator
which takes care of the Crankcase breather. I am also considering...

Eclipse 500 Direct Operating Cost by
Bravo8500
Does anybody know if the .69 per statute mile as posted on
eclipseaviation.com includes engine reserve? Also, going by the trip
profiles on the website, it looks like the cost would be a lot higher
on shorter trips... like the .69 is based on a max range trip, any
ideas?

Nearly new C182 checklist by
Brinks
I'm now the new owner of a nearly new 1957 Cessna 182A. The checklist that
came with the plane isn't very good. Does anyone have a checklist for an
early 182 they'd be willing to share? Thanks!

Pilots "Twas the night before Christmas" by
Matt Barrow
Twas the night before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the ramp,
Not an airplane was stirring, not even a Champ.
The aircraft were fastened to tiedowns with care,
In hopes that come morning, they all would be there.
The fuel trucks were nestled, all snug in their spots,
With...

430 vs 480 (CNX80) rehashed by
N2SX
I know this has been discussed and discussed here, but I wanted to
share some information that I just received from the company that
produces a few excellent training computer programs for avionics.
Some background - I flew a cherokee 180 with a 430 for about 5 years.
This year I moved to a Lance...

Airplane keys by
Ben Jackson
Someone in another thread mentioned that they carry their airplane keys
all the time. I'd like to do that, but my 39 year old airplane has 3
different keys -- one for the baggage door, one for the cabin door and
one for the mag switch.
Has anyone successfully re-keyed an airplane back to a single...

This is a bit long winded but I'm looking for qualified opinions as to what
might have happed to an almost total loss of power while in cruise flight in
my Mooney M20F. Here is the story of what happened:
I was flying from Turlock (south of Modesto) to Petaluma (north of San
