Procedure turn in Strong X-wind by smackey
OK, I'm flying my local VOR-A which calls for an outbound heading of 252, then I'm suppoosed to turn 45 deg to 207 to begin the PT. But there is a STRONG x-wind and I am already crabbed to about 215 to hold the 252 outbound course. I assume I turn to something not quite approaching 170 (45 deg...

A36 performance Figures by Anthony Acri
Does anybody know where to get some performance specs on the Bonanaza A36? Beta testing this aircraft for a software company and would like to see how close the simulation comes to true aircraft performance. If there are any sites I cam look at, I would appreciate it

Standalone GPS by Bob Gardner
To keep me from looking at every approach plate PDF in the country for some research I am doing, would you folks give me some examples of standalone (not RNAV(GPS)) approaches in your areas of operation? Thanks. Bob Gardner

IFR Bahamas? by smf
Does anyone know about filing IFR in the Bahamas? I went to the Out Island (Stella Maris) this past weekend. On return I filed a DVFR plan. It took about 40 minutes flying time to get close enough to Nassau to contact Naussau App. Does Mia center cover that far out? thanks Steve

Just soloed on my 14th b-day! by Tlewis95
I just soloed a Schweizer 2-33 on my 14th birthday! It was the very last day of operations for the Windy City Soaring Association (11/28/04) and I was the last flight of the season. I was amazed how much nicer the 2-33 seemed to fly solo (or maybe it was just me). A special thank you goes out...

GPS clearance puzzle by Roy Smith
Apparently, if you file IFR HPN - MMU, you get a clearance which starts "CMK CMK275R SAX039R SAX" (i.e. fly outbound on the CMK 275 until you intercept the SAX 039, then fly that inbound to SAX). In the good old days of 2 VOR receivers, this is trivial to fly; the radios don't know or care that...

Jep p or NACO Charts? by Judah
Last week I finally got checked out in the club's Arrow. During the training, the instructor noticed that I was using the NACO charts and plates. He uses the Jeppeson stuff and excitedly indicated that it is far superior to the NACO charts. He gave me a few reasons, but when I looked at it...

Are pilots really good or just lucky??? by Icebound
When I read something like this: http://www.tsb.gc.ca/en/reports/air/2003/A03A0022/A03A0022.asp ....I worry a lot. We have a pilot with 110 successfully Atlantic crossings and 5000 hours, taking a plane...IFR... 2000 miles across the North Atlantic into the Canadian sub-Arctic in the dead of...

The Perils of Being A Celebrity Pilot by C Kingsbury
Bust your altitude and it makes the papers (or the Drudge Report, in this case): http://www.wokr13.tv/entertainment/story.aspx?content_id=A4E8D35C-E98C-4449- B718-22EEF76AE40A Morgan Freeman was flying into TEB (in a turbine I presume since he says he was coming down to 3000 from FL210) and it...

Backup plates on PDA by Stan Prevost
There have been a number of threads in this and other forums about which approach charts to use, and about how the availability of free downloadable charts from NACO affects the decision. Some pilots purchase full US or regional subscriptions, others download and print just the charts they expect...

Alternate same as departure? by dlevy
Can you file the departure airport as the alternate? Two airports in the middle of nowhere 40 miles apart. I can't think of another reasonable option.

Cleared for an approach, then given a different altitude assignment by Peter R.
Today I was practicing a GPS approach and had been cleared for the approach with the normal, "Cessna XXX, cross ELESE at 3,000, cleared GPS 15 approach." A minute or so later the controllers switched positions and another one took over that slice of airspace. The new one came on frequency and...

X-country training flight by dlevy
Should I file individual legs? I don't need to land. If I file individual legs should I let the controller know before the approach that I'd like to open the next leg at the missed? Thanks!
