A Note for Jay Honeck by
Grumman 46U
As much as you have wanted to visit the Hangar Hotel, you definitely
made the right decision about the direction of your vacation. We're
about 70 miles east of Fredericksburg, and here's a synopsis of what
we've enjoyed lately.
Sunday: solid IFR, light rain. Sunday night-Monday...

USAF Museum? by
Paul Tomblin
Does anybody have any suggestions on flying down to Dayton to see the
museum at Wright-Pat? Good airports to use, good places to stay, etc? Is
there public transit to Wright-Pat or will I need to rent a car?

Helicopter crashes in Hawaii by
C J Campbell[_1_]
A Hell-USA Helicopter crashed at Princetown Thursday, killing the pilot
and three passengers. Then yesterday a Smoky Mountain Tours helicopter
crashed on Kauai. One person died of a heart attack, so the news media
are saying that it was a fatal crash.
There have been something like 8 helicopter...

I replied to your e-mail but Earthlink's spamblocker intercepted it. The

lowrance 500 opinion by
d&tm
Just saw a new lowrance airmap 500 on ebay ( australia) and am thinking of
bidding for it. anyone here have experience with this unit? is it suitable
for a low hour PPL flying C172 or warrior. Did a google and they seem cheap
compared to Garmin. Is there a good reason for that?

Pie in the sky by

==================================
"I think it's key that AOPA members understand that NextGen is more than
equipment, it's integrated information management, so that we pilots in the
air and the air traffic managers on the ground all have the same picture,"

Flying outside the USA by

I'm still working on my private but if my company sends me overseas
can I keep flying with my license? Real good chance I might be in the
Phillipines for a while.

Multiple control towers? by
NVArt
I recently had occasion to pass through DFW on American. How many
control towers does that airport have? What do they all do? I was
looking out the window like a kid. I think we passed a "35C". Sure is
a GIANT airport to a 172 driver. Was into McCarren once; it was
child's play compared to what...

Radial/DME on Garmin 96 by
Danny Deger
I just got a Garmin 96 and am practicing how to use it on my arm chair.
Does anyone know an easy way to have it give radial/distance from a VOR? I
can easily get inbound course and distance, but would like radial instead.

How are avionics technicians certificated? by
Jim Stewart
They don't typically have an A&P rating do they?
By what authority do they sign off repairs and
how do they get that authority? I haven't been
able to find anything specific to avionics in
FAR/AIM.

Pilot watch not a real EB6 by
BillJosephson
Hi. I am a bit confused. I saw this watch on Amazon and a reviewer
states it is not a real EB6:
"The E6-B rule bezel is incomplete, however operational. For a perfect
calculation, you must have a "mirror" of the main functions of the
rule bezel printed within the watch, just like any Jeppesen...

A logging question by

Hi all. I've been reading this group for a while, but this is my first
post here.
I have a US PPL, and I travel to Montreal frequently on business. I went
over to the Montreal Flying Club at St. Hubert last week to see about
flying in Canada. Evidently, under reciprocal agreements, I can easily...

A Bad Day For KJFK Ground Controller by
Larry Dighera
I received the following from a friend:
Here is a funny episode with a JFK ground controller and numerous
aircraft taxiing on the ground. Ground control at busy airports
like JFK is the busiest and most complex position in the tower.
There can be a hundred different taxi ways...

Flew again today. by
Oz Lander[_2_]
Well, I had another flying lesson today. The winds were about 22kts,
which is quite strong for the little Gazelle I'm learning in. We went
out into the training area today, rather than just doing circuits. I
was pleased, as I was getting bored with lying circuits all the time,
and I wanted to...

Hanscom / Bedford, MA Approach update by
Megan
Another NDB on the way out....
If you fly into Hanscom Field in Massachusetts IFR, the ILS 11 approach
has just undergone a rather large change.
The ILS 11 approach is now the ILS or LOC 11 approach. All references
to BEDDS, the LOM and an IAF have just been deleted. In its place is
the ZELKA,...

Pilot Suicides by

Student pilot Eric Johnson kills himself and his eight-year-old daughter by
slamming a plane into his former mother-in-law's house. The Indiana Star
notes that as a student pilot he was not allowed to carry passengers...
Apparently he practiced a few touch and goes before killing himself.
