Complex endorsement: what is so special about flaps? by
es330td
I read the the complex endorsement involves being instructed in
retractable gear, flaps and constant speed prop. I'm learning to fly
in a C172, which has flaps, so it seems unusual to me that flaps are
specified in the complex rating given that I have been using them
since day one.
The only...

"Ground cushion" by
gatt[_2_]
In the book "Takeoffs and Landings" by Leighton Collins--who is referenced
in "Stick and Rudder"--there is no mention of the term
"ground effect."
Rather, Collins talks briefly about "ground cushion" and how air "piles up"
beneath the wings.
Do people still teach this?

Engrish Proficiency ;) by
Robert M. Gary
Has anyone been able to get the FAA web site to issue you a temporary
certificate with the new required ICOA wording of "English Proficient"
on it? I asked for a verification of priv as well as a temporary
certificate and selected my reason as the "English Proficiency". I
quickly got both in email...

The Pilgrimage called "Oshkosh" by

Mary and I just watched this movie, curled up under blankets -- and they
really captured the spirit of the show. The snow may be high, and the
temperature may be bitter -- but we know that...

Complex endorsement question by
john
I already have a high-performance sign-off with several hours in a
C182 and a couple in a Bonanza. I have found a couple of places which
rent a C172RG for a reasonable price. My goal is to be get my
commercial and I'm starting to work on my IFR. With that in mind, I'm
looking at taking at least...

One week to comment on ADS-B Out NPRM....or you will lose by
Ron Lee[_2_]
There is one week left to comment on this onerous and fatally flawed
FAA proposal that may cost as much as $17,000 per aircraft with
little to no benefit to the GA community.
My website at StopADS-B.org/ADS.htm gives details. You can also
read about it at aopa.org.
You can read comments,...

Right Seat Learning by
[email protected]
A question to all the CFIs on the board who actually remember ---
How many hours in the right seat before you felt as competent in the
right as in the left? (In a side by side, not a tandem, Bertie)
I flew right seat for the first time in a couple of weeks and I felt
as co-ordinated on landings...

Sat phone rental recommendations by
Robert M. Gary
Seeing that Sat phone rentals are getting cheaper and cheaper it
almost doesn't make sense to fly out of the country (especially to
remote areas) without one. I'm going on a trip to central American in
a couple of weeks and am wondering if anyone can recommend a provider.
I will likely not use the...

Bad fuel gauges? by
WingFlaps
Hi all,
A recurring theme seems to be that one should should not rely in fuel
gauges. I can understand that from a safety point of view (I always
dip the tank before start), but I get the feeling that they are
considered just plain inaccurate. Why is that, every car I've driven
has a fuel gauge...

Headsets for hard-of-hearing pilots by
[email protected]
Hello,
I am 27 years old and am hard-of-hearing. I recently passed the
hearing portion for a third-class medical (barely), but I think I may
have gotten more lucky than not. The AME I had did the old "tone" test
where you raise your hand whenever you hear a certain tone in the
headset. I seem to...
