Positive Tank Pressure by
Greg Esres
Anyone have any information about how important it is for a fuel tank
to maintain positive pressure on the inside? I mean *above*
atmospheric.
Part 23 only makes reference to tanks with bladders; these are
required to maintain a positive pressure so they won't collapse.
A C172, though, doesn't...

Engine Dependability by
O. Sami Saydjari
I talked to TCM today to register that I am the new owner of one of
their engines. Just in passing, I mentioned that their engine failed
recently within a few hundred hours after major overhaul. They seemed
completely uninterested in knowing this fact. I asked if they kept
actual statistics on...

SR20 vs SR22 exhaust by
Ben Jackson
I'm not sure I'd ever seen an SR20 before today, and boy does it have
obnoxious exhausts. Are all Cirrus planes like that and I've just missed
it?

In the U.S., does 91.409(b) required 100hr inspections for a non-profit
flying club?
Here are some relevant details:
A club (a non-profit corporation in the eyes of the state) is formed
specifically as a flying club, and has no purpose other than to provide
its members with aircraft for private...

Portable oxygen system test/overhaul by
Ben Jackson
Where can I get an old Scott Executive Mark III oxygen system hydro
tested and serviced? I have one I'd like to buy cannulas for and fill
but I don't know anything about its history.
Portland, OR area would be best... If I have to ship that brick I might
be better off buying new.

Best place for permanent tiedown at SMO? by
Larry Jenkins
Hi all,
I'll be moving cross-country in June and will be flying my 172 to its
soon-to-be new permanet home at SMO. My questions are this: What is the
best place to tie-down at SMO? Who offers the best and reliable maintenence
for a small bird? Are some areas of the airport safer and/or...

In-Flight Engine Failure by
O. Sami Saydjari
Well, it happended. I have owned the plane (Piper Turbo Arrow III) for
3 months and the engine failed during climb out on Tuesday. Altitude
was 4400 feet. Luckily, the engine did not entirely quit and I made it
to an airport within 10 miles. TBO was 1000 hours away. Dissapointing!
When we cut...

How common are multiple point failures? by
Michael
My friend just bought an airplane. He did the prepurchase inspection
himself. That's not as bad as it sounds - he is an A&P/IA and has
owned and restored many airplanes. The plane was an older model light
twin and he got a great deal on it.
On the flight home one of the nav's (the only one with...

New engine by
Frode Berg
Hi!
We just got the bill for our new engine.....*GASP**
It should be ready and mounted in a few weeks.
It's a 1968' Piper Arrow 180 hp.
Great plane!
Is there anything we should be aware of the first few hours running a newly
installed factory overhauled engine? It's a Lycoming.

New engine II by
Frode Berg
Hi all!
Thanks to all that answered my last post! Very informative!
I have one more question regarding a factory overhauled engine.
Is it critical in any way to fly the first 25-50 hours quickly?
Can we shorten the life of the engine by letting the plane sit in the hangar
for many days/weeks...
