Plasma Reduces Jet Noise (Turbines?) by
sanman
Here's an article:
http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996073
So if plasma reduces jet noise, then can it reduce turbine noise?
There are gyroplanes like the one made by Groen Bros, and also the old
Fairy, which used ramjets on the rotortips to boost rpm and lift
during takeoff, but...

Military Diesel Bike Engine by
sanman
I was reading this thing:
http://www.drive.cranfield.ac.uk/cfml/dieselmotorbike4.cfm
Could this work for a small helicopter, like the kind BJ Schramm was marketing?
Comments?

The "Whirl": More Efficient Rotary Craft? by
sanman
Here's something I was reading:
http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996380
So beyond the mere claim of being more efficient, why would it actually be so?
The claim of hovering for 4 days is quite a jump, when compared to Global Hawk.
Is this even vaguely realistic?

aero-domains for helicopter pilots and helicopter companies by
secura
It is not well known, that also helicopter pilots and helicopter
companies can get aero-domains. If they have an own website or send a
document, they can
get a domain name at .aero and at the official subdomain
rotorcraft.aero, which has been established by SITA.
In the future, everybody, who is...

Sitting here in Mobile, Alabama watching the storm track headed right
for us. Of course many are preparing for it and offshore rigs have
begun evacuating. We haven't made a decision to move the aircraft out
yet and that will probably happen tomorrow. With Brookley field
sticking out into Mobile...

If you think the recent requirement by TSA to have CFI's register, and
to develop a database at your private expense, with threat of a
$10,000 fine if you don't comply, better keep your eyes open for the
even more sinister legislation for the national identity card with

Fun Stuff With Helicopters by

Was flying Bell 206 in Johannesburg, early 1970's. At the time there
were only five civil helicopters registered in all of South Africa. I
forget the exact reason for this event, but it included a lot of the
local politicians at the Britstown Tower in downtown Johannesburg. The
tower is similar to...

Weird Emergencies by
SelwayKid
Over the past weekend in San Diego, an 84 year old man decided to
unstrap and get out of the aircraft while on short final. It killed
him of course. He was in a biplane but it reminded me of some
incidents when I had passengers who became the emergency in
helicopters too. How to handle them?
A pax...
