Water dump valve rotary seal by Bill Daniels
My Nimbus 2C has a rotating shaft that passes through the root rib into the integral wing tank. This shaft operates the dump valve. This shaft has about 1mm radial play and appears to be leaking water at a slow rate. I detect no axial play. I find that the closing spring can be gently...

Astir Elevator by JD
Hello All, Now that winter is approaching its time to get back into the workshop. I fly an Astir CS (G102) and the elevator has a wavy skin. I note that several Astir's seem to suffer the same problem. Does anyone have any astir parts and elevators lying around that I might use. I am...

Help, I am just getting some time in a HP-18 that I purchased. I am having a couple of problems. There is quite a bit of glare on the inside of the canopy. I have switched to wearing gray shoes, but there is still more than I would like. There is also quite a bit of heat that is generated...

Why are TE probes so long? by Duane Eisenbeiss
"Mark James Boyd" wrote in message news:[email protected] Why are these things so long? If they were 2" instead of a foot long would it really matter that much? Is the airflow really disturbed enough to make a difference? Mark Boyd Avenal, California,...

Certificating the SparrowHawk by Finbar
Operating the SparrowHawk under Part 103 has never made any sense to me, for several reasons: there are operating restrictions (prior permission required to fly into an airport with a control tower, etc.); there's a common "that's not a real airplane" response you get from airports and tow...

Automatic Parachutes & Retrofitting by John DeRosa Sky Soaring Chicago IL
Please see my other thread on "Automatic Parachutes" in which I argue that an automatic (static line) parachute is a good thing (except maybe in the Andes!). So here I sit owning a non-automatic parachute (a Strong 305). Can it be converted to an automatic parachute? Can I simply add a...

Automatic Parachutes by John DeRosa Sky Soaring Chicago IL
I was looking at my new-to-me glider on Saturday and noticed a 1" hole just over the pilot's left shoulder with a red stripe painted above it. See http://www.dg-flugzeugbau.de/grosse-piloten-e.html for a picture of the hole. We stood around and pondered what the hole was for. No one had much of...

Why use TE probes at all? by Robert
wouldn't it be better NOT to use TE probes at all? they only increase the drag! Why not use electronic compesation and/or i.e. a bohli vario instead of TE probes?
