1925-dirigble target towing by
old hoodoo
I just read that the Shenadoah towed a target for the USS Texas anti-aircraft guns with success. The target was 50' long 10' in
diameter and was peppered by the Texas at 3000 feet. An interesting use for the lighter-than air ship.

A Great New Web Site for Soldiers! by
[email protected]
Desert Voices - a site for the troops
Returning home from a war can often be just as difficult as being in the
war. Soldiers have so much more to say than they care to share with
family or friends. I speak from experience, being a veteran of the first
Gulf War.
Soldiers need an outlet, a means of...

AAM targeting... by
Lynn in StLou
Am I correct in saying that our aircraft do not have helmet
mounted sighting system ala the MiG-29? As I understand the
MiG system, if the pilot can see the enemy, he can launch
and be reasonably sure of a kill. AIUI, our system,
especially for I/R AAM, is more limited in off the nose
capability. ...

Hornet down @ RDU, pilot OK by
John S. Shinal
F-18 lost power during takeoff at Raleigh NC's RDU airport,
and ended up in a burning pile beside runway 2L - pilot ejected OK,
apparently unhurt.
Hornet is still burning like hell, despite a huge amout of
foam, no injuries on the ground, and a few airliners have taken off
since the accident.

gunpods on Phantoms by
Rob van Riel
Navy Phantoms were capable of carrying a 20mm gunpod, but there is an
abundance of references stating this weapon was worse than useless for
air to air use, and thus not carried. However, I can't really find any
reference on the use of the gun in air to ground work. I know Air
Force Phantoms used...
