TKM Anyone? by
Jon Kraus
As stated earlier we are looking to replace our KX-170B (our 2nd
NAV/COM). As I was doing some research I stumbled across the TKM MX-170
http://www.avionix.com/rev-tkm.html
On the surface this looks like a pretty good deal (1.5 AMU's new). I
talked to a gentleman at Pacific Coast Avionics and he...

fuel monitor by
Tri-Pacer
I'm leaning towards installing a fuel flow monitor.
Either the JPI FS 450 or the Shadin Microflo-L Since I have only a 2 1/4
hole open I've kind of settled on one of these two.
Any comments pro or con?
Thanks
Paul

Used Avionics by
Jon Kraus
Our 2nd Nav/Com on our '79 201 is a KX170B. It has went on the fritz and
will cost .7 AMU's to repair. We were looking to maybe replace it with
a KX155 (14 volt), preferably w/o the glidescope. Does anyone have an
idea on where we might find one for a reasonalble price? Any advise
would be...

Engine Recomendations by
f
Today was not a good day for the Baron. While replacing a cylinder I found
a crack (confirmed with Dye Pent) off the #5 cylinder leading up towards the
case halves.
The engine has 2750 Hr since new and about 1000 Hr since a TW Smith
overhaul. The case is repairable, but it seems like a waste...

Bid to buy the Beechcraft was rigged? by

(WCCO) St. Paul
"At least four state senators want to know if Minnesota taxpayers paid way
too much for an airplane purchased by the state and if the plane was even
needed.
The 2005 Beechcraft Bonanza cost $727,000, but a Minnesota company said...

Fuel prices by
Paul kgyy
I saw an interesting presentation on C-span yesterday by an analyst
from Deutsche Bank. He made the following points.
1. Average prediction from multiple sources of oil prices: $60 for
2006, $40-50 after. Consensus is a 10% chance of future oil at $20,
also a 10% chance of $100.
2. The...

Flying our Cardinal south for its new plumage - Long report by
Longworth
Rick and I flew our Cardinal south for a paint job with AOGPaint in
Mena, Arkansas last Sunday. The $6K saving and the opportunity to gain
some long cross-country instrument flying experience was definitely
worth the hassle.
Our departure time was delayed by the Northeast heavy downpour...

The A-65 Overhaul/Buy question by
[email protected]
Here and elsewhere I've been exploring the possibility of buying an
a/c with an A-65 engine which has exceed TBO. We've learned the TBO
figure isn't gospel, but it probably isn't a bad idea to be
thinking about an overhaul. For the purpose of this discussion, let's
assume something has occurred and...

EL Cockpit Lighting? by
JB
Is anyone using electroluminescent lighting in their cockpit? My 1979
Warrior has small bulbs behind the cluster and the lighting has never
been great. A scan usually involves holding a flashlight! I was
interested in the 2" wide EL strips that go under the glareshield and
are sold by several...

Should a W&B list gross weight? by
Andrew Gideon
Some work was done on an airplane. The new W&B is of the "removed/added"
sort and computes a new empty weight and moment arm. But the document
doesn't state the gross weight.
The changes were all avionics; no airframe or power plant work was done. So
I'd expect the gross weight to remain...
