Flying wing vs tailless airplane by BernadetteTS
What is the difference between a flying wing and a tailless airplane? Is there a difference? Just wondering after reading the post about the monarch glider a few weeks ago. Where would an ME-163 be classified. Does an F-106 or B-58 delta wing count as a tailless airplane? Thanks Bernadette

Garmin G1000 by Corky Scott
In the latest AOPA magazine there is an article on one of the latest Diamond aircraft which is equipped with dual Garmin G1000's. I was really impressed in many ways by the units. Compared to a normal AI, the things are HUGE, they're something like 10.5 inches diagonally. It's like looking at...

Can I fly it at night? by bstanton
I have a 1941 Chief with lights on it. There's one light on each wingtip and one on the top of the fin. There's no anticollision light/strobe or landing light. There are wires from the 3 position lights to the cockpit, where they end. The engine has no alternator or generator and never has had...

ELT antenna -- Pitts by Al MacDonald
Greetings, I recently added an ICOM A200 to my Pitts S-1C. The previous owner had an ACK ELT installed just behind the seat with the antenna on the belly skin. I originally thought this wasn't a good place for the antenna as a relatively high speed dirt encounter would most likely take out the...

War Stories: Good degreaser? by B2431
I've heard of them doing up to 150 octane (I don't know how that's chemically possible, but that's what they say) It's not based on the hydrocarbon octane anymore. Most automotive gas pumps have the formula decal. Dan, U. S. Air Force, retired

Pulse jet active sound attentuation by Jay
In an earlier post I read somewhere that the pulse jet is a device that converts fuel into noise. Someone else had suggested firing 2 engines 180 degrees out of phase with each other to cancel the sound. If the 2 engines were stacked one over the other, then you might actually be able to cancel a...

Photos of damage to J3 Cub propeller after new engine mount installation by [email protected]
Photos of damage to J3 Cub propeller after replacement of old engine mount with new factory engine mount. Cowl clips rub against back of propeller, wearing a groove the size of a nickel and a few centimeters deep in the metal prop. Worth checking your installation for similar problem. Note the...

Long-EZ Bird Strike by Ron Wanttaja
Pretty incredible story: http://www.ez.org/birdstrike.htm Long-EZ pilot at 9,500 feet hit a bird, which shattered his prop, and the broken prop took off almost all of one winglet. Full aileron was only able to keep the wings level above 110 knots. Landed safely...sounds like a damn fine...

More Drywall Gussets by Veeduber
To All: As promised, here on this Newsgroup about six weeks ago, I've posted a snapshot of a rib gusset made from fiberglas drywall tape and polyurethane glue. The photo is in the Files archive of the Fly5kfiles Group on Yahoo, in the Practice Wing folder. Other rib gusset experiments of...

Alternative O-290 cylinders by Gene Z. Ragan
Hi, I am wondering if V0-435 cylinders can be used as replacements for the original 0-290 jugs. This is for non-certified use. I have also heard of an O-320 cylinder modification. If anyone could give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

LORAN antenna difference? by JFLEISC
Can someone tell me the differences between a loran antenna and a comm or VOR nav antenna? I guess what I'm looking for is why they would not be interchangable, i. e. is the loran signal totally incompatible with others? is it an absolute necessity for a preamp in the loran antenna (I would assume...
